Cubed Circle Newsletter 241 – Consistency is Hard As many of probably noticed, we have been posting late and sporadically for the last month. This was, obviously, not our intention, but with the second semester eating into my free time, staying up to date is a tall order. Even without the newsletter itself seeing weekly publication the site has still remained up to date on a weekly basis, thanks primarily to co-author Ben Carass, as well as guest writers Paul Cooke and Leslie Lee III. But, the newsletter has survived for well over 241 weeks, and will hopefully thrive in the years to come. I have attempted to make provisions for publishing related tasks which should minimize the risk of major delays (obviously there will be some regular delays, as this late issue can attest), but we have some fail safes in place in order to keep this to a minimum. With all of this said, we have a great issue for everyone this week with Paul Cooke discussing the Pro-Wrestling Only Greatest Wrestler Ever project and his personal experience with the poll, Ben covers the news including tons of results from Japan and the Lesnar USADA violation, the Mixed Bag returns with a look at comedy wrestling, Ricochet/Ospreay, and a potential WWE match of the year -- plus Ben also looks at last Sunday's Battleground show and the first RAW of the brand split (a very good show). Also, for those unaware, we now have an official Twitter account @CubedCircleWres allowing the banger to unprecedented highs at @BenCarass and @RyanClingman.

Senior Special Branch officer gets sudden transfer to PM’s Dept, told to go on long leave Malay Mail Online August 19, 2015 By YISWAREE PALANSAMY KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — In another abrupt change within government agencies, Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador was today transferred out of the Special Branch (SB) and into the Prime Minister’s Department where he will head a new security division reporting directly to Datuk Seri Najib Razak. A special ceremony was conducted behind closed doors in Bukit Aman earlier today, which saw Abdul Hamid passing on the baton as deputy director of the police intelligence agency to an assistant, Datuk Mohd Haniff Hanudin who was heading a unit called E4 that deals with the political extremist threat. Abdul Hamid confirmed the transfer when contacted, but said he was in the dark on the reasons for his abrupt work shift. “No… they just told me to go to JPM, so I go to JPM lah,” he told Malay Mail Online when contacted, using the Malay abbreviation for the Prime Minister’s Department. “No reason given and I just received the letter yesterday… earlier today, there was a ceremony to hand over my duty.” He added that he would take up his new duties at the Prime Minister’s Department on September 2, as he was currently on leave from work. Malay Mail Online understands Abdul Hamid was ordered to go on “long leave” before assuming new duties as the head of a new security and transnational crime division under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.

The UAE said on Sunday that four commercial vessels were sabotaged near Fujairah emirate, one of the world’s largest bunkering hubs lying just outside the Strait of Hormuz. It did not describe the nature of the attack or say who was behind it. The UAE had not given the nationalities or other details about the ownership of the four vessels. Riyadh has identi- fied two of them as Saudi and a Norwegian company said it owned another. Details of the fourth ship were not immediately clear. Thome Ship Management said its Norwegian-registered oil products tanker MT Andrew Victory was “struck by an unknown object”. Footage seen by Reuters showed a hole in the hull at the waterline with the metal torn open inwards.

On 2/28, Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey were the two co-headliners on a show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The idea was that Holm, a former world boxing champion, would impressively knock out Raquel Pennington, a .500 level fighter who was known for exchanging blows and not taking her down. Rousey was there to face Cat Zingano, a fight that was supposed to be the hardest one of her career. Holm looked unimpressive, barely squeaking by in a split decision. • INDO-PACIFIC Transnational Terror Cells in Malaysia
INDO-PACIFIC Transnational Terror Cells in Malaysia OE Watch Commentary: The accompanying passage from the Malaysian website Malaysiakini discusses Malaysian authorities’ recent successes in breaking up two transnational terror cells in the country. One of the cells, comprised of two Malaysians and an Indonesian, was reportedly planning to launch attacks in Malaysia and Indonesia before its members were detained in Kedah and Selangor, Malaysia. Authorities discovered another cell in Terengganu and Klang Valley, which included two Rohingyas from Myanmar among its four members. According to the investigation, a suspect detained in Kedah had participated in bomb-making training in Jogjakarta, Indonesia with Jemaah Ansharut Daulah, an Indonesian extremist religious group. As for the cell involving the two Rohingyas, it was reported that their targets were churches, Hindu and Buddhist places of worship, and entertainment centers; and their intended tactic was suicide bombings. According to the Inspector-General of Police, they supported the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and were exposed to its ideology, although there is no mention of them having trained in Iraq or Syria. These arrests indicate that Malaysia has successfully broken up terrorist cells on its territory. The country is increasingly being used as a transit hub by jihadists in the region, but what made these cases unique is that Malaysia itself was the intended target of attacks. Moreover, the involvement of two Rohingyas in one of the cells could indicate that some members of that ethnic group, having been victimized in Myanmar, could be vulnerable to recruitment by regional jihadist groups.
