Golf Manitoba Journal 2010 3 FROM THE “Lakeland Golf, Where Great Value Meets Good Golf” Editor’s Chair Only a Pitch, Putt WITH or Short Drive Away Ralph Bagley IT’S THE 31ST YEAR for the Golf Manitoba Journal and new pub- lishers are at the helm. I’m still aboard as the editor for this issue, but the publishing duties have been passed on from Bagcom Pub- lications to Esdale Publishing, with Dale Hughesman in charge of the operation and Laural Bickford looking after the advertising. You won’t find many changes from last year, except there is no Just 93 km north of repeat of the historical information, which was a special feature Winnipeg on Hwy # 59 of the 30th anniversary edition of 2009. We’re still featuring the 927-2250 Wpg previous year’s tournament results and winners, Golf Manitoba 756-2345 Beach awards and news, the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame inductions, the directory of member clubs and special sections for news from Reservations available up to 7 days in advance the Manitoba Golf Superintendents Association and the Manitoba Tom Betz, CPGA Head Professional Division of the Professional Golfers Association.

WHAT’S NEW ON THE MANITOBA GOLF SCENE has been an Just minutes north of Gimli annual feature for several years and that tradition is continued at 20115 Thompson Dr. in this issue (pages 31-34) because it seems there are always new courses or changes under way in this province. It’s one of 92-LINKS Wpg those rites of spring for this writer to try to track down information 642-8858 Gimli on just what is new around Manitoba and there are usually a few surprises. The movement among the professionals also seems to be never-ending and it’s a chore each spring to try to keep up with the changes.

Reservations available up to 7 days in advance IT WAS A TOUGH WINTER and I’m not referring to the weather Al Scott, CPGA Executive Professional but rather to the Golf Manitoba staff, who had go through TWO big moves in what was supposed to be their off-season. Like all the other sports organizations which enjoyed office space at 200 Main Street for several years, they had to make the move to the new Sport Manitoba building on Pacific Avenue. However, that building wasn’t ready when they had to vacate the Main Street quarters, so the staff had to pack up their things and moved to a temporary Next to winter location at Country Club. Then, the second big Assiniboine Park move came in the spring when they finally moved into their new 400 Shaftesbury Blvd. digs on the fourth floor at the Pacific Avenue location. It was cer- 888-2867 Wpg tainly a busier-than-usual winter for the gang but they’re getting nicely settled in their new surroundings. Reservations available up to 3 days in advance IT SHOULD BE AN EXCITING SEASON FOR GOLF FANS Jason Duncan, CPGA Executive Professional around Winnipeg this summer. If you like to watch professionals strut their stuff, you’ll have a chance to see the best female golf- ers in the world in action when the CN Canadian Women’s Open tournament comes to St. Charles Country Club Aug. 23-29. And, before that you can watch some of the up-and-coming male pros as they converge on Pine Ridge Golf Club for the Players Cup event, which has become the second-biggest money event on the Golf Course and Canadian Tour, thanks to a boost up to $300,000 from last year’s Recreation Complex $200,000 purse, and the winner gets a spot in the Canadian Open 1867 Springfi eld Road to boot.
