Class: YTR Purpose and Role: The fire and rescue boats are specifically Built 1978 configured to provide foam, high pressure water and to augment a ship's fire mains. The vessel is manned 24/7 and FLD 139 Tons thus can be used for other duties such as Search and Rescue (SAR). It is powered by diesel driven "Z" propulsion units. It is also fitted with a bow thruster.

Class: YD Purpose and Role: These barges are fitted with a steam Built 1955-1957 driven crane with 50 ton and 20 ton hooks. They are primarily used for buoy tendering and testing of lifting FLD *** appliances for the fleet. Each YD 250 Class Vessel maintains continuous availability apart from maintenance periods and refits. The YD 250 Class Floating Cranes are 37 metres in length (120 ft.) and displace 726 Tons. QHM employs 2 officers and 3 crew full time to operate and maintain each of the vessels. For operations, the crew is augmented by a 5 person rigging team.

Class: YAC Purpose and Role: HMCS ORIOLE provides sail training to junior officers and noncommissioned officers as part of their introduction to life at sea. Week long sail training opportunities are regularly provided to other elements of the Canadian Forces and civilian organizations. As an ambassador for the Navy, ORIOLE promotes the visibility of the Navy and Maritime Command, both in the local community and abroad though its regular participation in regattas and day sails. ORIOLE also routinely conducts community relations day sails in support of local charities.

Class: YRG Purpose and Role: The YRG 60 Class barges were designed Built 1961-1977 and fitted to provide bilge pumping and tank cleaning for HMC Ships and Submarines. However, at this time, only FLD *** YRG 61 maintains that function. YRG 60 is used as a fuelling barge. While YRG 62 can still perform tank cleaning and pumping duties, it is normally used as a compensating water barge for the IRO and VIC classes and QUEST. The on board machinery is powered by steam or diesel-electric.

Class: YFU Purpose and Role: The Landing Craft, Vehicle – Personnel 35’ LCVP, is constructed of heavy grade marine aluminum to withstand incidental grounding and has a self-bailing deck to remain buoyant when swamped. With its twin turbo- charged diesel engines and 12 inch jets it is a highly manoeuvrable vessel with an operating speed of up to 25 knots. These vessels are used as General Purpose Work Vessels and provide Pollution Control capability for QHM.

Class: Kingston Purpose and Role: The main roles of the KINGSTON Class ships are:

a. Coastal surveillance, including 18 day mission patrols and assistance to other government departments; b. Naval reserve force training in all disciplines and in all regions of the country; and, c. Mine countermeasures for route survey, and mine inspection operations.

The KINGSTON Class vessels are fitted for, but not necessarily with, Route Survey (RS) and Bottom Object Inspection (BOI) capabilities. Additionally an Accommodation Payload may be fitted. The RS, BOI and Accommodation capabilities are provided as interchangeable payloads that are fit to the vessels on an as required basis.

Class: YPT 610 Purpose and Role: The YTP class consists of Torpedo and Sound Ranging Vessels (TSRVs) which are configured to Built 1987 perform various range and underwater acoustic functions. FLD 275 Tons There were originally four vessels in this class. Two of these, formally YPTs and , were declared surplus to requirement in March 1996, and are now converted to diving tenders. The YTP class vessels were specifically designed and built for use at the Canadian Forces Maritime Experimental Test Range (CFMETR) and are operated by civilian DND personnel.

Class: YAG 680 Purpose and Role: The YAG 680 Range Patrol Vessel is an aluminum hull high speed chase vessel constructed in 1995. Built 1995 It serves multiple missions including sonobuoy recoveries, FLD 16 Tons range patrols, equipment launching, and personnel transport between Winchelsea Island and ships on the range. In order to clear the Nanoose range of unauthorized boats and traffic, the vessel has a top speed of 27 knots.

Class: PCT Purpose and Role: The ORCA class vessels are designed to provide training to regular and reserve force personnel both alongside and at sea. They will also have the capability of providing limited surveillance, public affairs support and Search and Rescue support in coastal communities and waters. These vessels will be primarily used for Officer Training. The ORCA Class Vessels are 33.00 metres in length and displace 210 Tons Deep Departure (DD). The vessels are operated by the Naval Tender Section (NTS) of the 4th Maritime Operations Group (MOG 4). The vessel will carry a minimum complement of 4 crew and 16 trainees.

Class: YAG 6 Purpose and Role: The Range Patrol Vessel Egret is an aluminum hull high speed passenger vessel, newly Built 2005 constructed in 2005 by Kamma and Blake industries. Its FLD 14 Tons routine duties include range security, personnel transport, and equipment launching and recovery. In order to clear the Nanoose range of unauthorized boats and traffic, the vessel is required to have a top speed of 30 knots, but has not achieved that in testing (22.5 knots). This vessel is operated by uniformed DND military personnel.

Class: YOM Purpose and Role: Built 1957-1976 YOM 252: This barge was originally built as a floating crane. In 1989 it was converted to a compensating water collection FLD *** barge. It is used for collecting compensating water from ships and submarines. YOM 252 is used approximately 12 times per year for compensating water fuelling. It holds 120 000 gallons of compensating water.

YOM 402: This barge was originally built as a general purpose barge. It was transferred to DND in 1991, and converted to it’s present state in 1994. It is used as a primary oil spill response and clean-up platform, as well as an incident command platform. YOM 402 is used approximately 6 times a year, either for training, or operations.

Class: ABCO Cutters Purpose and Role: The Cutter, Area Command (ABCO) is a 32 foot work/patrol boat originally acquired for operations in Halifax and Esquimalt harbours and their approaches under a heightened Force Protection posture. Class: YDT 11 Purpose and Role: YDT 11 is intended for use as Built 1962-1963 training/operational Dive Platform primarily deployed within the homeport harbors. The YDT 11 cannot go south FLD 135 Tons of Portland, Oregon is at no time permitted to be more than 20 miles off shore. The maximum distance between ports at any time cannot exceed 100 miles. The vessel normally operates in the surrounding waters of and is primarily manned by uniformed DND military personnel.

Class: YDT 610 Purpose and Role: Originally 4 vessels were built by West Built 1991 Coast Manly Shipyard to be used as Torpedo and Sound Ranging Vessels (TSRVs) at the Nanoose range but two of FLD 275 Tons the vessels, formally YTPs Sechelt and Sooke, were declared surplus to requirement in March 1996. They have since been converted to Yard Diving Tenders (YDTs) which are manned by regular force personnel and are designated as Minor Warships. The vessels are configured to aid in diving support training and can be fitted with a portable hyperbaric chamber payload. They have fitted mixed gas cylinders, mixing stations, HP compressors, and diving equipment. The 610 Diving Support Vessels have a secondary role of Search and Rescue.

Class: YAG 660 Purpose and Role: These vessels were built as rescue vessels Built 1985 for use at Comox. They were subsequently assigned secondary roles in Search and Rescue (SAR) and Pilot FLD 26.4 Tons Training. One of the primary training functions of this class is simulating a pilot being dragged through the water by his parachute. To support this training, both vessels are fitted for but not with the Drag and Drop tower. A single (1) drag and drop tower is included in the scope of support for these vessels.
