For this year only, this approach replaced the traditional in-person gathering of young prospects and football personnel from the league’s nine member clubs. These modifications appl to all CFL combines (Global, Regional and National) and to all prospects. 2021 CFL DRAFT TO FEATURE SOME SIGNIFICANT CHANGES Due to COVID-19, the CFL announced in February some significant modifications to this year’s CFL Draft: The draft order was determined by a random draw that was equally weighted across the nine CFL clubs. The 2021 CFL Draft will feature a “snake” format. The 2021 CFL Draft will be six rounds long instead of the traditional eight rounds. This is in recognition of the fact that 2021 CFL training camps will feature a “double cohort” of Canadian rookies, with a group from each of the 2020 and 2021 CFL Drafts. There will be no territorial selections in the 2021 CFL Draft. U SPORTS athletes had the opportunity to defer their draft year to 2022, if they decided to. In total, 132 prospects chose to move back their draft year to 2022. NCAA players who are draft eligible in the 2021 CFL Draft, and decide to use their extra year of eligibility, will not have their draft year deferred. 1 #CFLDraft 2021 CFL DRAFT SELECTION ORDER As of April 23rd, 2020 ROUND 1 ROUND 4 Pick # Team Pick # Team 1 Hamilton 28 Montréal 2 Saskatchewan 29 Calgary 3 Winnipeg 30 Toronto 4 BC 31 Ottawa 5 Edmonton 32 Edmonton 6 Ottawa 33 Toronto via BC 7 Toronto 34 Winnipeg 8 Calgary 35 Saskatchewan 9 Hamilton via MTL 36 Hamilton ROUND 2 ROUND 5 Pick # Team Pick # Team 10 Montréal 37 Hamilton 11 Calgary 38 Saskatchewan 12 Toronto 39 Winnipeg 13 Ottawa 40 BC 14 Edmonton 41 Edmonton 15 BC 42 Ottawa 16 Winnipeg 43 Calgary via TOR 17 Saskatchewan 44 Calgary 18 Hamilton 45 Montréal ROUND 3 ROUND 6 Pick # Team Pick # Team 19 Hamilton 46 Montréal 20 Saskatchewan 47 Toronto via CGY 21 Winnipeg 48 Winnipeg via TOR 22 BC 49 Ottawa 23 Edmonton 50 Edmonton 24 Ottawa 51 BC 25 Toronto 52 Toronto via WPG 26 Calgary 53 Saskatchewan 27 Montréal 54 Hamilton 2 #CFLDraft 2021 CFL DRAFT SELECTION TRADE SUMMARY ROUND 1 9th overall – Hamilton Tiger-Cats via Montréal Alouettes Hamilton acquired Montréal’s original 2021 first-round selection (9th overall) along with Montréal’s original 2020 first-round selection (5th overall), National defensive lineman Jamaal Westerman and American wide receiver Chris Williams in exchange for American quarterback Johnny Manziel, American offensive lineman Tony Washington and National offensive lineman Landon Rice.
