April 23 6 196.356 28-15 NEBRASKA EARNS NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS SPOT WITH HIGHEST TEAM SCORE IN FIVE YEARS TEAM EVENT RANKINGS Nebraska punched their ticket to the NCAA National Semifinals after finishing in second place at the NCAA Raleigh Regional with a season-high team score of 197.525, its best score in five years. Sophomore Taylor Houchin was named the Regional Event Rank RQS High Champion on bars with a 9.975, and the Regional Co-Champion on vault with a 9.95. Vault 9 49.250 49.475 Louisiana State University finished first in the Raleigh Regional with a 197.625, claiming the other qualifying spot to the NCAA Uneven Bars 12 49.250 49.375 National Semifinal on April 20 in St. Louis, Mo. North Carolina State finished in third with 196.050, while Maryland finished fourth Balance Beam 21 49.150 49.375 with a 195.850. George Washington and Oregon State rounded out the group with scores of 195.425 and 194.975, respectively. Floor Exercise 10 49.320 49.475 KENDIG EARNS 700TH CAREER WIN Dan Kendig, in his 25th year at the helm of Nebraska gymnastics , amassed his 700th career win in 35 years of head coaching experience in this postseason run. Kendig has led the Huskers to a 25-8 overall record in 2018. Outside of the Big Ten, Nebraska has only fallen to opponents ranked in the top 25 nationally.

HUSKERS FINISH SECOND AT BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS Nebraska women’s gymnastics finished in second place at the Big Ten Championships in Champaign, Ill., earning a final team score of 196.950, its best score away-from-home this season. Michigan won the Big Ten Championship with a score of 197.200. Through Session I, Nebraska was the team to beat in Session II, where six teams battled to top the Cornhuskers. Michigan won the Big Ten Championships with a score of 197.200, while Nebraska earned the runner-up spot with a score of 196.950. Illinois finished third with a 196.625, and Iowa finished fourth with a score of 196.400. Schweihofer hit a career-high 39.525 in the all-around, tying her season-high on bars with a 9.825 and her career-high on ALL-AROUND floor with a 9.95. She added a 9.85 on beam and a 9.825 on vault to reach her best all-around score of 39.525. Schweihofer’s Gymnast Rank RQS High all-around Big Ten Championship title is a first for the Huskers since 2013, when Emily Wong achieved the feat. March 6 Nicole Biondi (Ill.) /Lauren Bridgens(PSU) Freshmen March 12 Lexy Ramler (Minnesota) Gymnast HUSKERS WELCOME FORMER OLYMPIAN CHRIS BROOKS TO COACHING STAFF March 12 Emma McLean (Michigan) Event Specialist Head Coach Dan Kendig announced the addition of former Olympian Chris Brooks to his coaching staff, appointing Brooks as March 12 Lauren Bridgens (Penn State) Freshman an assistant coach in August, just days after Brooks announced his retirement from gymnastics competition. Brooks was named to March 19 Rae Balthazor (Illinois) Gymnast the five-man United States men’s gymnastics Olympic team and competed in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. The United States finished in fifth place overall at the 2016 Olympic Games, while Brooks finished 14th in the individual men’s all-around competition. Brooks March 19 Ivy Lu (Minnesota) Event Specialist was also an accomplished gymnast at the collegiate level. He was a four-year letterwinner at Oklahoma where he was a seven-time March 19 Lexy Ramler (Minnesota) Freshman All-American. With the Sooners, Brooks led his team to an NCAA title in 2008, and a third-place team finish in 2009. He finished third on floor exercise as a senior in 2009.

NEBRASKA INKS FOUR TO 2018 SIGNING CLASS Head Coach Dan Kendig announced the signing of four gymnasts to the 2018 signing class. Abigail Johnston (Parkland Fla.), Sarah Hargrove (Hendersonville, N.C.), Megan Thompson (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Kaylee Quinn (Rockaway N.J.) have signed letters of intent with the Huskers and will join the roster for the 2019 season.

CORNHUSKERS GROW ACROSS UNITED STATES Nebraska features just one gymnast from Nebraska in freshman Rachel Thompson on the 16-gymnast squad. The other 15 Huskers reign from eight other states: California, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, North Dakota, and Texas.

NEBRASKA BOARD OF REGENTS APPROVE NEW GYMNASTICS TRAINING FACILITY The University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved a proposal to build a new gymnastics training facility. The current plan calls for construction of the facility that will be used by Nebraska’s men’s and women’s programs as an addition to the northwest side of the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The facility will include training stations, coaches’ offices and locker rooms for both teams.

An outstanding performer on beam, she has won 10 individual event titles in her Bridget Hodan Illinois career, seven of which coming on beam. Most notably, Breen earned second team All-America honors and CoSIDA Academic Audrey Barber Maryland All-American and Academic All-District 7 honors in 2017. The two-time All-Big Ten honoree was the 2017 NCAA Lincoln Regional Brianna Brown Michigan beam champion and was named to the Big Ten All-Championships Team in 2016 on uneven bars and in the all-around. Breen Lexi Funk Michigan contributed to the 2017 Big Ten Regular Season Team Championship earned by the Huskers in 2017 and earned a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar award in 2016 and 2017. Breen is the first women’s gymnast from Nebraska to earn the award. At “Night at the Lied,” Sienna Crouse Nebraska Breen was presented with the Student-Athlete of the Year award, the Big Ten Medal of Honor, the Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Abbie Epperson Nebraska Award, and the Heart and Soul Award. Breen was presented with some of the most presitigious honors Nebraska athletics offers Megan Schweihofer Nebraska for her extenisve contributions both athletically and academically to the University of Nebraska, and she will be missed. She provides energy, leadership and has been a force in Nebraska’s lineups for all four years. The Linden, Mich., Olivia Aepli Ohio State native helped the Huskers to a 2017 Big Ten Regular Season Championship and has steadily contributed in each event and in the all-around in her Husker career. Williams earned second team All-American honors at the National Semifinals on April 20 both on Jamie Stone Ohio State balance beam and on floor, where her reputation for hitting routines and excellent showmanship precede her. Sabrina Garcia Penn State She was named first team All-Big Ten and the Big Ten All-Championships Team for her work on uneven bars and balance beam in 2016. A breakout year for Williams, she was the NCAA Iowa City Regional Co-Champion on balance beam and the Big Ten Big Ten Sportsmanship Awards School Co-Champion on balance beam in 2016. In her career, Williams has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice and Event Jordyn Givens Illinois Specialist of the Week once, after her winning performance on beam against Minnesota.
