A lot of hard work has gone on during the winter to make the merger of the YSPL and SYSCL as smooth as possible, and I thank all those who have contributed. Although inevitably there will be teething issues, we are sure that the decision we took to merge in November 2020 will strengthen the game in the region over the long term. 2020 was a season like no other. This time last year, we were just starting to realise the potential impact of the pandemic on the country as a whole. The health of our community was, and always should be, our priority and our thoughts are with the families and friends of those that we have lost. However, from the cricket perspective, we were pleased to get some form of competition in the second half of the season. We are starting 2021 under similar restrictions to those we adapted to in 2020, but with the ECB roadmap in place and a prompt start, we are all cautiously optimistic of a season more akin to what we are used to. I would like to thank everyone connected with our League; players, volunteers, groundstaff, umpires, scorers and administrators for your continued commitment to our wonderful game. I wish you all a successful season on and off the field. Last but not least, I would like to thank sponsors Nicholas Associates, Extra Cover Insurance, Viking Cricket, Readers and Oxbridge for their generous support of our new league; I hope that our partnerships will prove long and fruitful for all parties. It is one of the four Premier Leagues in Yorkshire, that comprise the Yorkshire Cricket pyramid. League competition The YCSPL is divided into two sections; the Premier Section and the Senior Section. The Premier Section comprises the Premier and Championship divisions; and the Senior Section comprises divisions 1 to 8. All ten divisions play a league programme of between 40- and 50-over games, mainly on Saturdays, for their divisional championships. There is promotion and relegation throughout the whole league. The winners of the Premier division go forward to represent the League in the White Rose Yorkshire Premier Leagues championships at the end of each season. Knock-out cups There are five knock-out cup competitions for YCSPL teams. All are based on the ECB national Royal London cup format. They are the: • Viking Cricket Yorkshire Leagues Knock-out Cup; for Premier division teams (joint with Yorkshire Premier League North) • ExtraCover Insurance Whitworth Cup; for Championship division teams • Mick Savage Trophy; for divisions 1 and 2 teams • Presidents Trophy; for divisions 3, 4 and 5 teams • Billy Oates Cup; for divisions 6, 7 and 8 teams T20 competitions There are two T20 competitions in the YCSPL. The first, the T20 Blast, is for Premier division teams and feeds into the ECB national T20 cup competition; the second, the T20 Plate, is open to all other teams and feeds into the ECB national T20 Plate. Due to current Covid restrictions, the precise format of these two competitions will depend on Covid restrictions. Important information 1 Constitution & rules. All the league rules can be found on the League’s main website at ycspl.co.uk/constitution-rules/. These include the administrative rules; playing conditions; cup rules; and all other specific policies and rules. 2 Finances. All requirements and guidance for clubs on grounds and facilities, including Clubmark, can be found in our Grounds & Facilities criteria document that will shortly be published in the Rules & forms section of our website. 4 League disciplinary information. Information about the YCSPL disciplinary process, the disciplinary chairman and committee, and the disciplinary report form can be found at ycspl.co.uk/disciplinary-section/. 5 Scoring. Clubs are expected to provide a scorer for each game. Both clubs must check that the scorecard is correctly downloaded onto Play-Cricket after the game. Queries on scoring issues should be referred to Steve Ward (Premier Section) or Lindsay Pepper (Senior Section). 6 Electronic media. Our aim is to provide a secure, stimulating and happy environment to encourage children’s independence and self-confidence. We aim to develop children physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Activities are carefully structured and planned to provide opportunities for all children to succeed in an atmosphere of care and of feeling valued. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework introduced by the Department for Education and Skills. This framework sets the standards for the learning, development and care of children within the Foundation Unit. The foundation stage is about developing key learning skills such as listening, speaking, concentration, persistence, cooperation and early numeracy and literacy. It is organised into seven educational programmes: ▪ Personal, social and emotional development ▪ Communication, language and literacy ▪ Physical Development (these are the three prime areas) and.. ▪ Understanding of the world ▪ Expressive art and design ▪ Maths ▪ Literacy (reading and writing) These areas are delivered through meaningful play experiences.

Friends Meeting House, Balby (Doncaster) Oxford Place, off St James Street, Doncaster, DN1 3RH National Grid Reference: SE 57363 02583 Statement of Significance Balby Meeting House represents the latest in a series of meeting houses that have served Quakers in the Doncaster area since the early eighteenth century. It was built in the 1970s, and refurbished and extended in 2009; it has low significance for its heritage value. Evidential value. As a relatively modern building, the building has low significance for evidential and archaeological values. The re-set grave stones in the garden have some evidential value, related to burial grounds in Warmsworth and on West Laith Gate, both since closed. Historical value The building is associated with the long history of Quakers in Balby and Doncaster, but the current meeting house and site has low historical significance. Aesthetic value The building has medium significance for its architectural value, as a typical example of 1970s design, remodelled to form an attractive, but plain meeting house in 2009. Communal value The meeting house has high communal value, as a place for Quaker meetings and it plays an important role in the neighbourhood, providing space for activities that support the community, particularly disadvantaged people, asylum-seekers and refugees. News & Views From St Mary’s Church Ecclesfield Church Magazine September 2020 www.stmarysecclesfield.com Price 60p First Words We enter September and the start of Autumn with things still very much restricted by the ongoing global pandemic. Many of us have had our holidays cancelled and our lives are still not what we would want them to be. But things are slowly beginning to open-up again. We are able to open Church for worship every Sunday at 10am and Thursday at 9.30 am. Most weeks we open Church for private prayer on Wednesdays at 3pm. I am very grateful to the wardens and Peter Lonsborough for all that they have done to enable us to open safely. We have been able to have some singing in Church on Sundays, and I hope that it won’t be too long before we can all sing hymns and worship songs together. Thanks to those who have contributed to the worship on these past weeks. Look out for announcements regarding worship on Sunday evenings. Small weddings can take place again, and there are a few weddings booked in for October and December, it is good to welcome couples who have come to hear their banns called on Sunday mornings. • On Monday 7th September the clock-repairers will be the tower replacing the broken pane of glass on the clock-face. • The Gatty Trustees will be meeting at 7pm on Monday 7th September in the Gatty Hall, • On Tuesday 8th September at 1pm we will be holding a meeting of the PCC in Church.

But by the same token, these are exciting times for us. No-one has any doubt that in 2029 the Church of England in South Yorkshire and the East Riding will look very different from the way it is now — but equally no- one is yet very clear about the shape it will take. Our plan is an ambitious one and we are hungry for change. We are asking tough questions. Will the whole people of God be mobilised for the whole mission of God? What will morale be like, among key lay and ordained leaders? Will attendance figures be in decline or growing? Will there be more stipendiary incumbents or fewer? Will there be more congregations or fewer? Will we raise up a dynamic community of ‘Lights for Christ’? Will we grow a praying community of 2025 by 2025? These questions were already pressing ones for us before the present pandemic: they will surely be even more urgent for us now.
