The earliest examples of lamentations for the Imam have been from the family of the Holy Prophet SAW. These elegies are traced back to the ladies of the Prophet‟s household. Poems composed were recited in majalis, the gatherings to remember the events of Karbala. The Holy Prophet SAW, himself, is recorded as foretelling the martyrdom of his grandson Hussain AS at the time of his birth. In that first majlis, Imam Ali AS and Bibi Fatima AS, the parents of Imam Hussain AS , heard from the Holy Prophet about the martyrdom and wept. Imam Hasan AS, his brother, as he suffered from the effects of poison administered to him, spoke of the greater pain and agony that Imam Hussain would suffer in Karbala. -

It advances a recent scholarly emphasis to re-assert the centrality of African societies to the history of the early modern trade diasporas that shaped developments around the Atlantic Ocean. -

NUOVA SECONDARIA RICERCA Le scuole coraniche informali ( kuttab ) in Mali e i loro allievi ( garibout ): fra educazione religiosa e manipolazione Rita Finco e Marie Rose Moro in ogni lingua, i concetti e il loro utilizzo acquisiscono autonomia in relazione ai locutori, ai periodi storici, al sistema culturale, alle di - namiche in corso e ai rapporti di forza esistenti tra politica, ideologia e religione. un processo inevitabile che tocca anche il termine di scuola coranica e di allievi coranici. affrontare il fenomeno dei garibout (allievi delle scuole coraniche informali), in Mali, significa interrogarsi su diversi aspetti, ma in questo articolo mi soffermerò esclusivamente sul funzionamento delle kuttab (centri d’insegnamento islamico) e sulla fabbricazione, in senso nathaniano, dei suoi adepti 1. in questo modo vorrei offrire al lettore una riflessione sull’argomento, in virtù del fatto che tale problematica è già stata approfondita nel dibattito scientifico dal saggio collettaneo curato da elisa Pelizzari e omar sylla, all’interno del quale avevo redatto un contributo e che qui in parte riprendo 2. In every language, concepts and their employments obtain autonomy in connection with different speakers, historical periods, cultural system, current dynamics and power relationships among politics, ideology and religion. This is an unavoidable process that also concerns the words “Koranic” school and “Koran”’s students. Adapun idarah masjid merupakan pengelolaan administrasi dan organisasi masjid. Idarah masjid sangat penting sebagai suatu upaya perbaikan masjid dari dalam berupa penguatan eksistensi masjid sebagai lembaga keagamaan umat Islam. Masjid Jami’ Al-Anwar merupakan salah satu masjid bersejarah dan masjid tertua yang ada di Provinsi Lampung. Sebagai masjid tertua yang ada di Provinsi Lampung keberadaan Masjid Jami’ Al-Anwar sudah dikenal sejak lama dan dalam pelaksanaan manajemennya sudah banyak perkembangan dari masa-kemasa, khususnya pada kegiatan idarah masjid yaitu pengelolaan administrasi dan organisasi kemasjidan. -

Make-Believe Families and Whiteness Judy Scales-Trent* The only way you will understand this story is if I start out by telling you that there are six major ethnic groups in Senegal: Wolof, Sereer, Pular, Diola, Toucouleur, and Mandingue. And you need to know that my husband is Sereer. This story took place one afternoon as we were taking a very long car trip south from Dakar to Niodior, the fishing village where he was raised and where his family still lived. After traveling for several hours, we reached a part of the road where there were no signs of life-no houses, no shops, no women selling fruits and vegetables on the roadside, no flocks of sheep, no cars or buses or horse-drawn wagons. -

Hemmig 2015 Abstract Like much of Subsaharan Africa, development has been an ever-present aspect to postcolonial life for the Halpulaar populations of the Fuuta Tooro region of southern Mauritania. With the collapse of locally historical modes of production by which the population formerly sustained itself, Fuuta communities recognize the need for change and adaptation to the different political, economic, social, and ecological circumstances in which they find themselves. Development has taken on a particular urgency as people look for effective strategies to adjust to new realities while maintaining their sense of cultural identity. Unfortunately, the initiatives, projects, and partnerships that have come to fruition through development have not been enough to bring improvements to the quality of life in the region. Fuuta communities find their capacity to develop hindered by three macro challenges: climate change, their marginalized status within the Mauritanian national community, and the region's unfavorable integration into the global economy by which the local markets act as backwaters that accumulate the detritus of global trade. Any headway that communities can make against any of these challenges tends to be swallowed up by the forces associated with the other challenges. -

Introduction La région comprise entre les vallées du Sénégal et de la Gambie constitue lextr ême-ouest de la zone soudano-sahélienne. Au-del à de la rive nord du Sénégal, elle borde le Sahara et avoisine, au sud de la Gambie, les premi ères for êts ombrophiles de la Casamance1. Elle sindividualise aussi par rapport aux régions plus orientales du Soudan par une région de plateaux, où abondent les concrétions latéritiques, qui sépare la cuvette du Sénégal de celle du Niger. Cest cette région que jai choisi de nommer Sénégambie, indé- pendamment dautres usages qui étendent cette dénomination à un territoire plus vaste, englobant lensemble des deux bassins du Sénégal et de la Gambie depuis les sources de ces fleuves. Les trois peuples qui se partagent la majeure partie du territoire compris entre les deux vallées, « Toucouleurs » de la vallée du Sénégal (ou Takr ūr), Wolof, Sérer, sont apparentés par la langue et la culture 2.
