International Casting Directors Network Index 01 Welcome 02 About the ICDN 04 Index of Profiles 06 Profiles of Casting Directors 76 About European Film Promotion 78 Imprint 79 ICDN Membership Application form Gut instinct and hours of research “A great film can feel a lot like a fantastic dinner party. Actors mingle and clash in the best possible lighting, and conversation is fraught with wit and emotion. The director usually gets the bulk of the credit. But before he or she can play the consummate host, someone must carefully select the right guests, send out the invites, and keep track of the RSVPs”. ‘OSCARS: The Role Of Casting Director’ by Monica Corcoran Harel, The Deadline Team, December 6, 2012 Playing one of the key roles in creating that successful “dinner” is the Casting Director, but someone who is often over-looked in the recognition department. Everyone sees the actor at work, but very few people see the hours of research, the intrinsic skills, the gut instinct that the Casting Director puts into finding just the right person for just the right role. It’s a mix of routine and inspiration which brings the characters we come to love, and sometimes to hate, to the big screen. The Casting Director’s delicate work as liaison between director, actors, their agent/manager and the studio/network figures prominently in decisions which can make or break a project. It’s a job that can't garner an Oscar, but its mighty importance is always felt behind the scenes. In July 2013, the Academy of Motion Pictures of Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) created a new branch for Casting Directors, and we are thrilled that a number of members of the International Casting Directors Network are amongst the first Casting Directors invited into the Academy.

(NASDAQ:TTWO), announced today that The Great Escape, based on the classic 1963 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Film, has shipped to retail outlets nationwide for the PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system, Xbox(TM) video game system from Microsoft(TM) and PC. One of the most celebrated tough-guys of American cinema, Steve McQueen makes a triumphant return as he is digitally recreated to reprise his unforgettable role as Captain Virgil "the Cooler King" Hilts in The Great Escape. Utilizing McQueen's likeness, The Great Escape puts gamers in control of Hilts and his band of POWs as they break free from the notorious Stalag Luft III prison camp and battle the Nazis throughout WWII. Gamers will combat the evil Third Reich in fistfights, shootouts and high-speed chases through 18 unique levels of adrenaline-filled stealth and combat-based gameplay. Throughout The Great Escape, players will control multiple characters, each with their own individual strengths and abilities, through a variety of levels. McQueen's character Hilts, "The Cooler King," has a knack for picking locks. MacDonald, known as "Intelligence," can speak German to impersonate Nazi soldiers, and Hendley, "The Scrounger," is a master pickpocket. The diverse and beautifully rendered levels include a German POW camp, a mountaintop castle-fortress, a moving train and an active Luftwaffe airfield.

  • Affirmative Entertainment
Affirmative Entertainment David Duchovny Biography Born and raised in New York City, Duchovny attended Princeton University (where he played one season as shooting guard on the school's basketball team), received his Masters Degree in English Literature from Yale and was on the road to earning his Ph.D. when he caught the acting bug. Subsequently, Duchovny emerged to become one of the most highly acclaimed actors in Hollywood. The star of Fox Television's international monster hit "The X-Files," David was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, he was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his highly acclaimed and some say risque appearances on THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW. In January 1997, David won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series. He has been nominated for a total of three Golden Globes, three Screen Actors Guild and a TV Critic's Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series. The press and the public both agree that Duchovny brings a fierce intellect, a quiet intensity and an acerbic wit to his roles on both the small screen and the silver screen. Since THE X-FILES debuted, millions and millions of self-proclaimed "X-Philes" spent their Sunday nights wide-eyed in anticipation as their hero, the brilliant and sullen FBI agent Fox Mulder, explored cases deemed unbelievable or unsolvable by the Bureau. Duchovny's remarkable performance on THE X-FILES earned him the title of "Zeitgeist Icon" by Laura Jacobs in The New Republic and "the first Internet sex symbol with hair" by Maureen Dowd in The New York Times.

  • The Power of Subtext and the Politics of Closure: an Examination of Self, Representation, and Audience in 3 Narrative Forms
THE POWER OF SUBTEXT AND THE POLITICS OF CLOSURE: AN EXAMINATION OF SELF, REPRESENTATION, AND AUDIENCE IN 3 NARRATIVE FORMS by Adam Berzak A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts Florida Atlantic University Boca Raton, Florida August 2010 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to thank the members of my thesis committee—Dr. Youngberg, Dr. Barrios, and Dr. Berlatsky—for their patience and guidance throughout the development of this project. I would also like to express my gratitude towards Barri, Gary, Mookie, Quincy, and Lucy for their enduring love and support. Not least, thank you to Alissa Feffer for cherishing the ‘real’ me. iii ABSTRACT Author: Adam Berzak Title: The Power of Subtext and the Politics of Closure: An Examination of Self, Representation, and Audience in 3 Narrative Forms Institution: Florida Atlantic University Thesis Advisor: Quentin Youngberg Degree: Master of Arts Year: 2010 This thesis explores the ways that certain artists—including Joseph Conrad, Alan Moore, Richard Attenborough, and Francis Ford Coppola—break from their inherited traditions in order to speak from an alternative perspective to western discourse. Conventional narrative formulas prescribe that meaning will be revealed in a definitive end, but all of the texts discussed reveal other avenues through which it is discerned. In Heart of Darkness, the tension between two divergent narratives enables Conrad to speak beyond his social context and imperialist limitations to demonstrate that identity is socially constructed. In Watchmen, Moore breaks from comic convention to illustrate ways meaning may be ascertained despite the lack of plot ends.
