DENVER BRONCOS QUOTES (12/21/11)

CORNERBACK CHAMP BAILEY

On if they can take anything from their preseason meeting with Buffalo “A little. You can, because they pretty much have the same personnel without their star running back, but Spiller’s no slouch either. We’ve got our hands full. We’ve just got to make sure we bring the same intensity we did back then.”

On Bills WR Stevie Johnson “He’s tough, and watching him on tape—I watched the Jets game, Chargers game—their corners had a hard time with him. One thing he’s good at is getting off the ball and making people kind of look stupid. If we can just limit those plays, especially down the field, we can do a good job against him.”

On QB “Recently, he’s been struggling just because the ball hasn’t been bouncing his way. Early in the year everything was bouncing their way. It’s not like he’s playing badly, it’s just things are not happening for him right now. I hope that continues this week.”

On state of the team after the loss to New England “A lot better. The focus is there. I feel really good about the past two days of practice, because guys seem to be refocused. We felt like we were going to do good things in that game, but when the pressure is on, you have to make it carry over from practice, and it didn’t.”

On how he can help young players “Not depending on them to get me lined up—do my job— and then maybe I can dip and dabble with what they have to do and try to correct them if they mistakes, or whatever it may be. Any questions they have, just be there for them.”

On playing alongside veteran safeties in Denver “I’ve been lucky enough to have them every year I’ve been here. It’s amazing to have a veteran like that beside you, because you know it’s one guy you never have to worry about.”

On teaching young players “It kind of comes with the territory. The older you get, you kind of fall into that role. I welcome it, because there are a lot of things in my brain I can give, and I just hope guys want to take it from me.”

On regrouping after a loss “Absolutely. You hate to go through a loss to get you to do that, but whatever it takes. We’re still in it. We’ve still got a chance. We can’t worry about other teams and what they’re doing. We’ve got to take care of our business and everything will fall into place.”

On RB C.J. Spiller “I know one thing. When he lines up out wide, we’re treating him like a . He’s that fast. He’s special. He could play corner; that’s how fast he is.”

On learning after a loss “You hate to lose to try to learn lessons, but if you’re fortunate enough to still be in a good position when you lose, it sometimes can be good for you. None of us like it. We learned a lot from it, and we’re just going to keep pushing forward.”

On playing well against top quarterbacks “We’ve got to play good against the good ones, and we didn’t. Those are three very good quarterbacks (Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, Tom Brady). They’re probably all going to be quarterbacks this year. We’ve got to show up when we play guys like that. In order to win in the playoffs, you’re going to see that every week, so we’ve got to play better.”

On Pro Bowl voting “You want to make sure the people that deserve it get in, not just somebody we know. You look at the whole body of work people do and go from there.”

On competing for the division title “Just to be in position to get it, obviously, we’ve got to go take it. It’s a good feeling, because we know if we win, we get in, and that’s what it’s all about.”

On his Christmas plans “I think we have that day off, so I’ll be relaxing just kicking back, opening some gifts.”

On his favorite Christmas memory “I got my first bike. I was about seven or eight years old, I think. I do remember it was a white bike. I’ve probably still got it somewhere in the back of the house. I just remember it because everybody had one for years before that, and I finally got my first one when I was about 8 years old.”
