Landen was playing with Pratap Rajadhyaksha; their teammates were Dan Morse-Bobby Wolff and Adam Wildavsky-Doug Doub. With one round to go, three teams were closely bunched: Landen, Malcolm Brachman (Chris Compton, Mike Passell, Claudio Nunes, Fulvio Fantoni) and Nick Nickell (Richard Freeman, Jeff Meckstroth, Eric Rodwell, Bob Hamman, Paul Soloway). Brachman split their round – 1.5 to 1.5 – while Nickell got only 1 on the round. That put Landen on top with 33.14, followed by Richard Schwartz (Michael Becker, David Berkowitz, Larry Cohen, Zia Mahmood, Michael Rosenberg) with 31.12 and Nickell with 30.65. Landen and Rajadhyaksha claimed their second North American championship as a partnership; they won Open Pairs II at the 2000 Spring NABC in Cin- cinnati. Landen won the same event at the 1990 Spring NABC in Fort Worth. Morse and Wolff won their second North Ameri- can championship at this tournament – they were mem- bers of the winning Senior Knockout Teams earlier in the week.     EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING Chennai, 28th September– 2nd October 2015 PRESIDENT’S REPORT Dear Friends, Also this year I have to start my report honouring the memory of great friends of us who sadly and in some cases suddenly passed away. Al of you are already aware of the passing of Ernesto d’Orsi and Jean-Claude Beineix and I have already reported at the meetings both of the Officers in New Orleans and of the Management Committee in Lucignano. It seems to me due today remember them that in the last meeting of the Executive Committee, hold in Sanya, were seated with us at this table. Looking at the picture of the Honour Committee members taken in Sanya, it is still very difficult to me to accept that they are no more with us. Consent to me to officially repeat in this report at the Executive Council that Jean-Claude and Ernesto were two pillars of the WBF organisation. Ernesto was one of the most eminent personalities in the history of bridge over the last forty years: an essential point of reference, who represented, with his advice and his suggestions, a sort of “permanent school” for everybody. Jean-Claude was an authoritative member of the Executive Council for ten years up to 2003, but since then has continued to serve the WBF with competence, passion and dedication at the Championships and also as Chairman for the delicate sector of the organisation of the Tournament Directors. Ernesto and Jean-Claude were great friends of us all and their memory will accompany us and all their bridge friends everywhere in the world for the rest of our lives.

Gitelman ignored that advice, and now he is the 2005 Honorary ACBL Member of the Year. Gitelman is special. His bridge programs have made a major difference for hundreds of thousands of bridge players. He has been active in promoting Junior bridge. He is a talented writer. He has served on many important bridge committees. He has coached some of America’s international teams. And he’s a fine bridge player as well – he placed second in the 1995 Bermuda Bowl, for example. But this article isn’t about Gitelman’s’s accomplishments. It’s about Fred – the real Fred. Most bridge players have heard that Gitelman plays bridge with Bill Gates of Microsoft fame. How did that ever come about? Italy’s Lauria now Surprisingly it started with Warren Buffett, the internationally famous financial guru.
