This represents the most significant reform of UK insurance law since the Marine Insurance Act of 1906. All contracts of insurance, reinsurance and retrocession made after 12th August 2016 (or variations to contracts which are made after 12th August 2016) will be governed by the Act. The Act is the product of a process of law reform which of the Act, and assessing the practical implications of was instigated by the Law Commissions in 2006. The Act is the Act across all lines of insurance business. Some of intended materially to change the way in which insurance the more controversial provisions of the Act, such as the business is conducted, and is designed to modernise and removal of the basis of contract clauses, have already clarify the law. -

However, in order to make good regulation it is necessary to have an institutional architecture to support it and ensure that the necessary measures are taken. With this in mind, this paper attempts to identify how the British regulatory institutions have developed in the last years to contribute to better regulation in the country as well as what still needs to be done. 1 1 This is the final paper presented at the conclusion of a 3 month programme organized by the Hansard Society in which apart from the Democracy and Public Policy classes at LSE, I was able to work as an intern in the Law Commission and the Better Regulation Executive.
