DECEMBER 2015 "Something to remember and be proud of in our parish." Young people from Kildimo Youth Club in 1990 took the first Peace Step with help from the Irish Peace Institute and the International students from the University of Limerick. Twelve Peace messages were sent out to the twelve European countries at the time. They erected the first Christmas tree in the community site displaying the European flags and each message was read out at a youth mass before the lighting of the tree. The tree was lit by Jim McMahon from the Shannon Centre for International Co-Operation, and peace was sent all over Europe. ! Kildimo / Pallaskenry GAA 2015 was a historic year for Kildimo/Pallaskenry GAA as they fully amalgamated at a historic meeting in October. Members of both clubs voted to completely amalgamate playing resources, assets, liabilities, fundraising and committees. 2016 will be a landmark year as the club looks to build on the successes of the last few years. On the playing front many strides were made again. The Under 15 hurlers and footballers were the highlight of year, winning both the under 15 hurling and football against Ballybrown and Na Piarsigh respectively. The intermediate hurlers made significant progress in 2015 by making the 1/4 finals of the intermediate championship for the first time in five years. They lost to a good Cappamore team after a replay. While the all-conquering junior footballers of 2014 added another county Junior A league title to their impressive trophy cabinet. They lost to Cappagh in the Junior A championship semi-final in October. With a young side they’ll go a couple of steps further in 2016. The minor hurlers won the county B title against Ballybrown in the Gaelic Grounds to cap off another fine year. Many players from the club also represented various Limerick Intercounty squads with great skill and pride over the course of 2015, which is a wonderful reflection on the club. We’d like to wish everybody a merry Christmas and a happy new year and look forward to seeing old and new players back in training in 2016! Deputy Patrick O’Donovan TD Limerick Fine Gael TD Patrick O’Donovan has been in contact with the National Road Section of Limerick City and County Council in relation to the possible development of walking lanes in Kildimo.
