On Balance with Leland Vittert” Premieres at 8 P.M NEWSNATION LAUNCHING TWO NEW WEEKNIGHT PROGRAMS JULY 19 “ON BALANCE WITH LELAND VITTERT” PREMIERES AT 8 P.M. ET “NEWSNATION: RUSH HOUR” PROMISES FAST-PACED, BREAKING NEWS ANCHORED BY NICHOLE BERLIE AT 6 P.M. ET CHICAGO, IL (July 8, 2021) – NewsNation, Nexstar Media Inc.’s wholly-owned cable network reaching 75 million U.S. television households, today announced two new programs to premiere July 19: ON BALANCE WITH LELAND VITTERT at 8 p.m. ET and NEWSNATION: RUSH HOUR with Nichole Berlie at 6 p.m. ET. ON BALANCE promises to be unpredictable, engaging, intelligent, thought-provoking, and visually compelling, with Mr. Vittert taking a critical look at some of the day’s hottest topics. Anchored by Ms. Berlie, RUSH HOUR is the new name for NEWSNATION EARLY EDITION, and it will be dedicated to breaking news and utilizing the full power of Nexstar’s nationwide network of 5,600 journalists. “No one else has instant access to as many newsrooms as we have in the Nexstar family of stations,” said Michael Corn, President of News for NewsNation. “RUSH HOUR and ON BALANCE emphasize our commitment to building a unique, one-of a kind news network that is independent, respects its viewers, and remains dedicated to keeping them engaged, with just a little bit of unpredictability thrown in for good measure.” Mr. Vittert joined NewsNation in May as anchor/correspondent and has been covering national affairs and delivering special reports for the network on a variety of critically important subjects, including the recent Biden-Putin Summit in Geneva, Switzerland. His June 2 interview with Dr. Anthony Fauci on NewsNation generated exceptional buzz on social media platforms and in mainstream media outlets when Dr. Fauci said that his emails “…were really ripe to be taken out of context.” Mr. Vittert was a veteran foreign correspondent based in Jerusalem for Fox News and started his work in the Middle East by covering the events of the uprising in Egypt that became known as the “Arab Spring.” In 2011, he was one of the few reporters to broadcast live from Cairo's Tahrir Square on the night that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak relinquished power. Mr. Vittert then covered the subsequent revolution in Libya, where he reported on Muammar Gaddafi’s counterattack on citizens. Before moving to Washington, D.C., in 2014, Mr. Vittert spent a month in Eastern Ukraine as Russian-backed militias took over parts of the country. From 2015 to 2021, Mr. Vittert anchored FNC’s America’s News Headquarters, a weekend afternoon newscast. “ON BALANCE will ask ‘why?’ on the most pressing matters of the day without fear or favor,” said Mr. Vittert. “We also believe, sometimes, two opposing views can both be true at once. We will always respect the intelligence of our viewers and promise them an intellectual, sometimes fun and appropriately irreverent program with a balanced a point of view.” Nichole Berlie joined NewsNation in September of 2020 from WCVB-TV (ABC) in Boston, where she served as anchor of their weekend newscasts. On March 1, 2021, she began anchoring NEWSNATION EARLY EDITION WITH NICHOLE BERLIE. “I’m energized by the promise of this new no fluff, no filler, newscast,” said Ms. Berlie. “Our live capabilities and news resources across the country are unmatched by any other broadcaster. We’re primed to deliver the fastest-paced action-packed news hour on TV.” NewsNation is available weeknights from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET, with encore presentations until 3 a.m. ET Monday through Friday. On weekends the network airs original newscasts from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET. (see here for where you can watch or stream), followed by encore presentations of Banfield. NewsNation is also available 24/7 on the NewsNationNow app and at NewsNationNow.com. ### About NewsNation NewsNation is a national news and entertainment cable network reaching 75 million television households across the United States. • Social Media and the Unyielding Flow of Cable News in the Age of Trump
Social Media and the Unyielding Flow of Cable News in the Age of Trump Deborah L. Jaramillo, Boston University An early observation about television’s daily architecture warrants a reevaluation as new technologies and shifting viewing patterns call into question its relevance. For all the justified criticism, adaptation, and elaboration of Williams’ earliest description of flow, a return to the general concept helps us decode what is happening on cable news in the Trump era. The new routine on cable news generally revels in the sort of disruption instigated by political turmoil, scandal, a renewed investment in investigative reporting, and the decision of cable news producers to include and fixate on Trump’s Twitter feed. Information flow, Twitter flow, and programming flow live together now, sometimes uncomfortably. The key to flow on MSNBC, in particular, is the way that this new living arrangement moves not toward denouement and relaxation at the end of the programming day as broadcast flow does. The blow of each revelation snowballs so that flow is not just a sequence of possibly connected stories from dawn through midnight. I argue that the crux of flow on MSNBC is actually about memory and magnitude—not the resolution of but the accumulation of politically charged information, crises, and catastrophes across the day and, as we are seeing, across all days. Cable news has created a space where continuity, repetition, anticipation, and disruption commingle; the resulting atmosphere is ripe for continuous, live political catastrophe. Cable news relies on the relentless flow of time to frame its usefulness for viewers.

Available online at www.sciencedirect.com Journal of Business Research 61 (2008) 798–803 Fast and frequent: Investigating box office revenues of motion picture sequels ⁎ Suman Basuroy a,1, Subimal Chatterjee b, a College of Business, Florida Atlantic University, Jupiter, Florida 33458, United States b School of Management, Binghamton University, Binghamton, New York 13902, United States Received 26 October 2006; accepted 21 July 2007 Abstract This paper conceptualizes film sequels as brand extensions of a hedonic product and tests (1) how their box office revenues compare to that of their parent films, and (2) if the time interval between the sequel and the parent, and the number of intervening sequels, affect the revenues earned by the sequels at the box office. Using a random sample of 167 films released between 1991 and 1993, we find that sequels do not match the box office revenues of the parent films. However, they do better than their contemporaneous non-sequels, more so when they are released sooner (rather than later) after their parents, and when more (rather than fewer) intervening sequels come before them. Like other extensions of hedonic products, sequels exhibit satiation to the extent that their weekly box office collections fall faster over time relative to contemporaneous non- sequels. Managerial implications of the results are discussed. © 2007 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. Keywords: Sequels; Brand extensions; Box office revenues; Satiation 1. • Wgn Radio Names Reporter Steve Alexander to Take Over for Orion Samuelson Beginning in January
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WGN RADIO NAMES REPORTER STEVE ALEXANDER TO TAKE OVER FOR ORION SAMUELSON BEGINNING IN JANUARY Televised “Hometown Heroes” featuring Orion Samuelson to air on NewsNation on Dec. 18 CHICAGO (December 17, 2020) – WGN Radio announced that reporter Steve Alexander will assume responsibilities from agribusiness broadcaster Orion Samuelson beginning in January. Samuelson retires on December 31 after marking more than 60 years with the station. “In the past 60 years with Orion Samuelson at the helm, WGN has been committed to supporting, educating, and reporting agribusiness news to our listeners. That commitment continues because we are fortunate to have Steve Alexander take over for Orion,” said WGN Radio Vice President and General Manager Mary Sandberg Boyle. “For more than a decade, Steve has been Orion’s understudy and has an incredible depth of knowledge, ensuring our station’s dedication to covering the world’s largest industry: agriculture.” Since coming to WGN Radio in 2007, Steve Alexander has anchored newscasts, been a fill-in for Orion Samuelson and Max Armstrong, and produced and hosted “Farming America”, a daily three-minute agriculture show. "When I've filled in for Orion over the past 12 years, I've often joked that he gave me the key to the tractor, and I was able to keep it out of the ditch until he returned. Come next month, I'll try to keep the tractor upright and continue Orion's efforts to explain how important agriculture is to all of us,” said Steve Alexander. Alexander’s agrarian roots run deep, extending to the Volga region of Russia where generations of his German ancestors farmed to his own upbringing on a farm in northeastern Colorado where he was immersed in the ag industry.
