RELEASE NUMBER 5 (September 26, 2011) FCS-Pacific (National) | KOA-RADIO | CUBUFFS.COM (Live Stats) QUICKLY SPEAKING … The Colorado Buffaloes (1-3, 0-0 Pac-12) have their first league game as a member of the Pac-12 Conference this Saturday, hosting the Washington State Cougars (2-1, 0-0 Pac-12) in a 1:40 p.m. kickoff at Folsom Field … The game will be televised nationally by Fox College Sports and will air on its Pacific Network (Ch. 415 on Denver/Boulder Comcast; DirecTV and DISH channels TBA) … The Buffs are 78-37-2 in conference openers (5-2 in their first game in a brand new league); CU was 8-7 in Big 12 openers and won its last seven as a member of the Big 8 … CU is coming off a 37-17 loss at Ohio State where field position dictated the entire game: OSU’s average starting field position was the CU47 (Colorado’s was its own 18) … The Buffaloes are 12-3 at home since mid-1984 when losing by 20 or more points the previous week on the road … WSU is the first of three opponents (all this month) who will play CU with the schedule break of having the previous week off; Washington (Oct. 15) and Arizona State (Oct. 29) are idle the previous Saturdays as well and also will have a full two weeks to prep for the Buffaloes … CU’s director of equipment, J.T. Galloway, is a ’94 Washington State graduate … Sophomore ILB Derrick Webb will celebrate his 21st birthday on game day this Saturday … There are just over 4,000 tickets remaining for the WSU game, which is one of the main attractions of CU’s annual Family Weekend … Colorado has sold over 2,700 tickets locally for next week’s Stanford game, with some seats in the CU section still available according to ticket manager Will Simpson; that game has been selected for a national television broadcast on Versus, the second time the Buffs will appear on the network (other: a 28-24 win over Iowa State in 2008) … Visit CUBuffs.com/gameday as your one stop for everything, including our on- line media guide and live stats. DEPTH CHART ON PAGE 52; ROSTER ON PAGES 53-54 CU-WSU TV: FCS-Pacific (National) / Steve Physioc (play-by-play) / Yogi Roth (color analyst) / Desmond Purnell (sideline reporter) / A.J. Godinez (producer) STAT(S) OF THE WEEK Colorado had just 16 rushing attempts at Ohio State last Saturday (actually 15 rushing calls, one play was a quarterback sack). That ties for the second fewest rushing attempts in a game in Colorado history. The Buffs had 14 against Iowa State in Boulder in 1982 (for 76 yards, the same amount CU gained in Columbus); and had 16 against Louisiana State in the ’62 Orange Bowl (for 24 yards) and versus Oklahoma in the 2004 Big 12 Championship game (for a net minus four yards). Despite committing two turnovers at Ohio State, the Buffs still have only three in four games and are eighth in the nation in fewest turnovers lost. OBSCURE NOTE OF THE WEEK 3/8-5/8: Huh?, you say? Colorado’s slow starts have been well documented, but when the light switch is flicked, look out. In the first quarter-and-a-half of the four games to date, CU is being outscored 43-3 and outgained 524-230, with 14 first downs to 33 by the enemy. In the last two quarters-and-a-half (not including the Cal overtime), the Buffs have outscored the opponent 89-72 and own a 1,246-723 edge in total offense and 62-44 in first downs. 2011 COLORADO SCHEDULE & RESULTS (1-3, 0-0 PAC-12) 2011 Date CU* Opponent Opp* TV Result/Time Record Series This-N-That Sept. 3 NR at Hawai’i NR ESPN2 L 17-34 2-2 1- 2-0 UH jumped to 17-0 halftime lead; CU pulls to within 24-17 but Warriors hang on SEPT. 10 NR CALIFORNIA NR FCS (P) L 33-36 (OT) 3-1 2- 4-0 Buffs rally from 10 down twice, but open OT with a FG and Cal countered with TD Sept. 17 NR Colorado State (Denver) NR FSN W 28-14 3-1 61-20-2 Hansen accounts for 4 TDs (2 rush/2 pass); CSU: 163 yards after opening drive Sept. 24 NR at Ohio State NR ABC/ESPN2 L 17-37 3-1 1- 4-0 Field position dictated game: CU (its 18), OSU (the CU 47) made it a tough go OCT. 1 NR WASHINGTON STATE (FW) NR FCS (P) 1:40p 2-1 4- 2-0 The two swapped road wins in ’03 (WSU in Boulder) and ’04 (CU in Seattle) Oct. 8 at Stanford Versus 5:30p 3-0 3- 3-0 Last trip to Palo Alto (’93) produced a barn-burning, 41-37 Stanford win Oct. 15 at Washington TBA TBA 3-1 5- 5-1 UW, with former CU coach Rick Neuheisel, swept H-and-H in ’99 and ’00 OCT. 22 OREGON (HC) TBA TBA 3-1 8- 7-0 Last meeting in ’02 Fiesta Bowl—when both felt snubbed for BCS title game Oct. 29 at Arizona State TBA TBA 3-1 0- 2-0 Schools, 600 miles apart, finally met for the 1st time in 2006-07: ASU won both NOV. 4 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (N) ESPN2 7:00p 3-1 0- 5-0 First home Friday night game in CU history (three road/ two bowls, ’71 & ’88) NOV. 12 ARIZONA TBA TBA 1-3 12- 1-0 CU defensive assistants Brown (DC), Tuiasosopo (DL) on ’10 UA staff Nov. 19 at UCLA TBA TBA 2-2 2- 4-0 Embree to line up against former mentor (Neuheisel) and own son (Taylor) Nov. 25 at Utah FSN 1:30p 2-1 30-24-3 Old rivals were actually set to resume series in 2012 after 50-year dormancy Dec. 2 Pac-12 Championship Game FOX 6:20p at campus site of the division winner with the best record (All times mountain.
