The award is given by the Davey O’Brien Foundation to honor the nation’s top quarterback based on performance on the field, in the classroom, and as a team player who displays leadership, character, and sportsmanship. Leonard started seven games, including the Tribe’s final six as a redshirt freshman in 2006, passing for 1,321 yards with eight touchdowns. He added 331 rushing yards on the season with a pair of touchdowns. “Obviously, we are very pleased with Corey being placed on the Watch List,” said ASU head coach Steve Roberts. “He had a tremendous end to his freshman year, and played very well in a lot of games. Obviously, people saw enough in him and his production to place him on that list, and it is certainly an honor for him and our program.” The Watch List is based on All-America teams and Honorable Mentions published in at least six different preseason college football magazines. A candidate must be listed as an All-America quarterback or as a 1 st or 2 nd team All-American within his conference in at least one publication, or as Honorable Mention in at least three publications. The winner will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN Dec. 6, 2007. The recipient will be honored Feb. 18, 2008, at the annual Davey O’Brien Awards Dinner at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas. In addition to being named to the Davey O’Brien Watch List, Leonard has been named to the Athlon’s and Phil Steele’s Preseason Second-Team All-Sun Belt www.ASUIndians.com Conference teams heading into the 2007 season. He is one of only nine sophomores to be named to the Davey O’Brien Award Watch List. The Indians open the season Sept. 1 at the University of Texas, then return to Indian Stadium for the Sept. 8 home opener against Memphis. 2007 Davey O’Brien Award Watch List Erik Ainge Tennessee SR John David Booty USC SR Colt Brennan Hawai'i' SR Brian Brohm Louisville SR Shaun Carney Air Force SR Rudy Carpenter Arizona State JR Chase Clement Rice JR Chase Daniel Missouri JR Nate Davis Ball State SO Dennis Dixon Oregon SR Julian Edelman Kent State JR Caleb Hanie Colorado State SR Martin Hankins Memphis SR Graham Harrell Texas Tech JR Omar Haugabook Troy SR Chad Henne Michigan SR Rocky Hinds UNLV JR Chase Holbrook New Mexico St. JR Brian Johnson Utah JR Kinsmon Lancaster UL-Monroe JR Dan LeFevour Central Michigan SO Corey Leonard Arkansas St. SO Nate Longshore California JR Colt McCoy Texas SO Anthony Morelli Penn State SR Curtis Painter Purdue JR Matt Ryan Boston College SR Jameel Sewell Virginia SO Riley Skinner Wake Forest SO Paul Smith Tulsa SR Matthew Stafford Georgia SO Karsten Sween Wyoming SO Pat White West Virginia JR Justin Willis SMU SO Andre' Woodson Kentucky SR www.ASUIndians.com .
