Fire destroyed a convenience store and filling station in Melrose early Monday, authorities reported. The fire was reported at around 4 a.m. at Nick’s Quick Stop on State Road 21. The building was fully involved when fire- fighters arrived. The business was on the Clay County side of the Putnam- Clay line. Putnam County firefighters responded and aided Clay County firefighters at the scene. SR 21 was closed briefly during the fire. No injuries were reported. The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the case.
