POUND DAY – RETURNS

Districts Gifts to Hospital

In spite of the present depression, the districts contributed generously to the Pound Day effort on behalf of the Horsham Hospital. The returns were as follows:-

The Hospital (548 donors) 777½ lbs of groceries : 551 lbs butter : 68 eggs : 70 lbs apples : 1cwt 21 lbs potatoes, : sundries : 1 fowl : 2 tongues : sausages : cake : jellies : grapes, peaches and other fruit : vegetables : cotton wool : polishes : silver paper : china and glass ware and £15.15s.0d in money

Town Hall (60 donors) 136½ lbs of groceries : 1 lb butter : 12 eggs : bread, books, matches, silver paper and £6.6s.0d

Devonshire Laundry (20 donors) 48½ lbs of groceries, pears : bananas : Ovaltine and 7s.

Billingshurst (27 donors and many school children) 220 lbs of groceries : 1 lb butter : jellies, matches and £2.7s.6d

Broadbridge Heath (16 donors) 44 lbs of groceries : grapes

Christs Hospital (54 donors) 110½ lbs of groceries and £2.1s.6d

Southwater (80 donors) 115 lbs groceries : ½ lb butter : 8 lbs apples : jellies : vegetables : soaps, polishes : toilet paper : £2.5s.0d

Warnham (35 donors) 61½ lbs groceries : jellies : custard powder : Bovril : £1.1s.0d

West Grinstead (100 donors) 177½ lbs groceries : 2 lbs butter : 30 lbs apples : 85 lbs potatoes : 9s.6d

Totals: 1,765 donors :- 1 ton, 5 cwt, 2 qtrs & 4 lbs groceries : 23 lbs butter : 16 dozen and 4 eggs : 1 cwt , 2 qtrs, 15½ lbs apples : 2 cwt, 1 qtr and ½ lb and £60.19s.4d in money.

The gifts from the villages and the School were brought to the Hospital by helpers and local carriers free of charge. The two large Horsham posters were given by Mr C Bristow and they were posted free of charge, one being carried from the Carfax to the Town Hall on the day by Mr C Parsons.

Thanks for due to the many helpers who distributed posters and leaflets, and also to those who received the gifts.

Further gifts have been promised and will be acknowledged in due course.
