Useful McCombs and UT Technology Websites for your Web Browser

Below are instructions for extracting the web links to Internet Explorer and Firefox. To download to Firefox, you will have to extract to Internet Explorer first, and then import them to Firefox. Follow the instructions below.

1. If you don’t already have the zip file, download the McCombs Tech Links Zip File from www.mccombs.utexas.edu/tech/orientation/bba/thankyou.asp

2. Double-click on the downloaded Zip file TechLinks.zip.

3. Click the Extract Button.

4. If you use Windows XP, extract to: C:\Documents and Settings\your Login User Name\Favorites

If you use Windows Vista, extract to: C:\Users\your Login User Name\Favorites

5. Extract and the McCombs Tech Links will be sent to your Internet Explorer Favorites.

6. Open Internet Explorer and view the list of links under Favorites in the newly created McCombs Tech Links folder.

Firefox users can import links from Internet Explorer. Follow these steps.

1. Follow above steps to download and extract the McCombs Tech Links to your Internet Explorer Browser Favorites.

2. Once you have the McCombs Tech Links Folder in your Internet Explorer Favorites open your Firefox Browser.

3. Go to File > Import.

4. This will open the Firefox Import Wizard. Select Microsoft Internet Explorer and click Next.

5. Check only the Favorites box and click Next then Finish.

6. To view your Firefox Bookmarks go to View > Sidebar > Bookmarks.

7. A new folder will be created in your Firefox Bookmarks called From Internet Explorer. Click the “+” sign next to the folder to expand it. Click and Drag the McCombs Tech Links folder out of the From Internet Explorer folder.

8. The McCombs Tech Links will now be its own folder. Right Click the From Internet Explorer folder and Delete it. This will get rid of any extra information that was imported over from Internet Explorer.

9. Your McCombs and UT Bookmarks are now available under the Bookmarks pull down menu.
