The Sixth Batch of Child Development Fund Projects 1.1 The Child Development Fund (CDF) aims at promoting the collaboration of the family, the private sector, the community and the Government to encourage disadvantaged children to plan for the future, develop an asset-building habit as well as accumulate savings and intangible assets (such as positive attitudes, personal resilience and capacities, social networks, etc.). All these attributes are useful for their future development, thereby reducing inter-generational poverty. Each project lasts for three years. 1.2 The Social Welfare Department (SWD) has earlier invited non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to submit application for operating the sixth batch of CDF Projects. Upon the recommendation of the Vetting Committee, SWD has awarded 27 projects to 21 NGOs. In Tuen Mun district, the operating NGOs include the Free Methodist Church of Hong Kong and Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. 2. Youths Art Fair Cum Theatresports 2.1 The Working Group of Promoting Healthy Adolescent of Tuen Mun Local Committee on Services for Young People and Tuen Mun District Fight Crime Committee had co-organized “Youths Art Fair Cum Theatresports” in Tuen Mun Yan Oi Square on 19.2.2017. The event recruited a total of 17 teams with 75 young people of Tuen Mun to participate in arts and cultural performances to develop their self-confidence and nourish good behavior and character. The performances included dragon dance, singing, funk dance, band, rope skipping, juggling etc. The instructors of the Hong Kong Youth Talent Institute of Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service – Hong Kong were invited to lead the youth audiences took part in “theatresports” performance to help to promote their creativity and self-confidence. 1 (B) Family and Child Welfare Services Tuen Mun District Coordinating Committee on Family and Child Welfare Services (the Coordinating Committee) had organized the following programmes : 3. Parent Education Talk – 「孩子心。我關心」家長講座暨兒童遊 戲活動 3.1 The Educational and Publicity Working Group of the Coordinating Committee had organized 「孩子心。我關心」家長講座暨兒童遊 戲活動 at Yan Chai Hospital Law Chan Chor Si Primary School on 14.1.2017. The Working Group invited Dr POON MAK Sui-man, the ex-senior psychologist of Yaumatei Child Psychaitric Centre and Kwai Chung Hospital to share the development and emotion of children and the handling skills of children’s emotion. In total, there were 170 parents and 116 children attended this programme. 4. “We are Family” Community Integration Project - Talent Show and Multi-cultural Fun Fair 4.1 The Community Integration Working Group of the Coordinating Committee and Tuen Mun District Office of Home Affairs Department had again co-organized the Community Integration Project “We are Family” - Talent Show and Multi-cultural Fun Fair. The programme was organized at Tuen Mun Yan Oi Town Square on 15.1.2017. The programme aimed at promoting social inclusion and enhancing community participation among new arrivals and ethnic minorities through multi-cultural variety shows. About 70 new arrival and ethnic minority participated different kinds of performances and multi-cultural activity booths. (C) Elderly Service 5. SWD Elderly Information Website 5.1 SWD now launches the "SWD Elderly Information Website" (elderlyinfo.swd.gov.hk), which is a dedicated website on long-term care 2 services for the elderly in a bid to enhance transparency of service information. The website offers one-stop licensing and service information of all residential care homes for the elderly licensed under the Residential Care Homes (Elderly Persons) Ordinance as well as the information about the recognised service providers under the Pilot Scheme on Community Care Service Voucher for the Elderly. (D) Volunteer Services 6. 2016-17 Community Caring Shop Recognition Scheme 6.1 The Steering Committee on Promotion of Volunteer Service of SWD has organized the “Community Caring Shop Recognition Scheme” since 2012. Its aim is to recognize and award small shops which are devoted in making use of their businesses and resources in assisting the under-privileged groups. The “2016-17 Community Caring Shop Recognition Scheme” is now accepting nominations and the deadline for nomination is 12 April 2017. It is welcomed for local organizations and NGOs to nominate suitable small shops to join this scheme. The scheme details and nomination form are available in the homepage of “Volunteer Movement” of SWD (http://www.volunteering-hk.org/2017caringshop).
