Cast Bios EMERAUDE TOUBIA ‘LOVE IN THE SUN’ Cast Bios EMERAUDE TOUBIA (Alana) – Quickly becoming known for her natural talent, exotic beauty and the characters she brings to life on the big and small screens, Mexican-Lebanese actress Emeraude Toubia is one of the most-watched talents in the industry today. Since 2016, Toubia can be seen starring as Isabelle Lightwood in the hit Freeform series “Shadowhunters,” whose third and final season premiered February 25, 2019. “Shadowhunters” is based on the best- selling young adult fantasy series The Mortal Instruments, written by Cassandra Clare. Toubia is known to steal scenes portraying Isabelle, a human-angel hybrid trained to hunt down demons. Born in Canada and raised in Brownsville, Texas, Toubia was raised in a diverse household that immersed her in the best of both Mexican and American cultures. At the age of five, she began training in classical ballet, flamenco, lyrical and belly dance. At only 15 years old, Toubia’s love for the stage led her to compete in a series of pageants. She has since been named Miss South Texas, Miss Rio Grande Valley America and Miss Brownsville Teen. In 2008, Toubia was cast to participate in Nuestra Belleza Latina (a beauty pageant and docuseries produced by Univision). Following weeks of extensive training, her wide fan base selected her as the first finalist to the crown. As a result of her success, she went on to star in multiple commercials for such brands as Maybelline, JC Penney, State Farm and Sony. Her additional credits include hosting for a national cable network as well as starring in both youth and primetime Telenovelas for various Latin American markets. When she’s not on set, Toubia is dedicated to perfecting her skills through education, training with a handful of mentors and coaches including the Oscar®-nominated Adriana Barraza. Toubia also has a big place in her heart for charity, regularly volunteering for a handful of non- profit organizations including Toys for Tots and the Make a Wish foundation. She also leads the “Queen for a Day” program at her hometown’s children’s hospital. # # # TOM MADEN (Kai) — Known for his recurring role on NBC’s “Parenthood,” Tom Maden’s career took off when he booked a role starring opposite Geena Davis in TNT’s “Untitled Bounty Hunter Project” and appeared throughout the first season of MTV’s “Scream: The TV Series.” Maden then landed recurring roles on the Freeform drama series “Famous in Love” and on the popular Netflix series “13 Reasons Why.” Maden recently played a leading role in the Sony/CBS comedy pilot “25.” # # # SHAWN CHRISTIAN (Micah) — A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Shawn Christian grew up acting purely for the love of it. “Acting in and writing for talent shows and school plays was simply a small-town passion until I graduated from Ferris State University,” he says. After earning a degree in marketing, Christian left the next day to pursue his dream as an actor, relocating to Chicago, where he honed his acting skills with a variety of acting coaches and styles. Christian began to find his true voice with the improvisational company Improv Olympic. Just as he was about to begin Second City in Chicago, he got his first big break portraying working class anti-hero Mike Kasnoff on the New York-based CBS daytime drama “As the World Turns.” After a three-year run, he made the leap to Los Angeles and landed recurring roles on ABC’s “Boston Legal,” as a delinquent husband to Julie Bowen, on NBC’s “Crossing Jordan,” as a wily journalist, and on “Las Vegas” as a nemesis to Josh Duhamel. Christian returned to his comic roots with roles on the HBO series “12 Miles of Bad Road” and on the hit series “Friends,” “Will & Grace,” “The Drew Carey Show,” “Ellen,” “Becker” and “Coupling.” Christian experienced more than a few failed pilots and shows until he starred in The WB’s hit series “Summerland,” and opposite Jami Gertz and Tyne Daly in the CBS hit movie “Undercover Christmas.” Christian’s additional television work includes starring in the NBC hit family movie “Secrets of the Mountain,” opposite Paige Turco, “Shark,” with James Woods, and “CSI.” Additionally, he played lead roles in John Woo’s action drama USA pilot “Red Skies” and on the quirky, NBC spy comedy “Spy Girl,” opposite Jennie Garth. Eager to play darker characters, Christian was excited for the opportunity to portray convicted killer Danny Pelosi in “Murder in the Hamptons” and a dangerous con man in “Ghost Whisperer.” Christian picked up film roles in Christopher Guest’s feature film For Your Consideration and in Shopgirl, directed by Steve Martin and starring Claire Danes. Additional film roles include How to Leave Your Lover, Almost You and Beautiful, directed by Sally Field and starring Minnie Driver. Christian also appears in a supporting role in Eddie Murphy’s film Meet Dave and stars as the lead in the cult franchise hit Tremors III as the offbeat Zen cowboy, Jack Sawyer. Christian executive produced, co-directed and starred in the independent film Spanners, which won the award for Best Sci-Fi Film at the 2015 Hollywood Independent Reel Film Festival and Best Actor at the 2015 Hollywood Underground Film Festival. He also stars opposite Chris Pine, Oscar® nominee John Hawks and Oscar® winner Octavia Spencer in Small Town Saturday Night. Christian just finished a long run as Dr. Daniel Jonas on NBC’s “Days of Our Lives.” Since leaving the show near the end of 2015, he has completed three films: he plays villainous street hustler Lance in the suspense thriller Last Seen in Idaho, a duplicitous killer in Hidden Truth and his latest role took him back into comedy with the film Savannah Sunrise. Christian also recently starred in “Ruby Herring Mysteries: Silent Witness,” which premiered in January of 2019 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. In addition to acting, Christian is the Executive Director of Operations and Marketing for the non-profit youth mentorship camps Arrow-Heart Adventure Camps. “I believe every kid is at risk. Arrow-Heart is dedicated to enriching, inspiring and empowering young teens through exciting and challenging adventures which nurture young teens with the virtues of commitment, communication, courage, compassion, critical thinking and character.” Arrow-Heart Adventure Camps operate in Idaho and Detroit with progress being made to open camps in Sacramento, Los Angeles, Portland and Atlanta. • 'Nothing but the Truth': Genre, Gender and Knowledge in the US
‘Nothing but the Truth’: Genre, Gender and Knowledge in the US Television Crime Drama 2005-2010 Hannah Ellison Submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) University of East Anglia School of Film, Television and Media Studies Submitted January 2014 ©This copy of the thesis has been supplied on condition that anyone who consults it is understood to recognise that its copyright rests with the author and that no quotation from the thesis, nor any information derived therefrom, may be published without the author's prior, written consent. 2 | Page Hannah Ellison Abstract Over the five year period 2005-2010 the crime drama became one of the most produced genres on American prime-time television and also one of the most routinely ignored academically. This particular cyclical genre influx was notable for the resurgence and reformulating of the amateur sleuth; this time remerging as the gifted police consultant, a figure capable of insights that the police could not manage. I term these new shows ‘consultant procedurals’. Consequently, the genre moved away from dealing with the ills of society and instead focused on the mystery of crime. Refocusing the genre gave rise to new issues. Questions are raised about how knowledge is gained and who has the right to it. With the individual consultant spearheading criminal investigation, without official standing, the genre is re-inflected with issues around legitimacy and power. The genre also reengages with age-old questions about the role gender plays in the performance of investigation. With the aim of answering these questions one of the jobs of this thesis is to find a way of analysing genre that accounts for both its larger cyclical, shifting nature and its simultaneously rigid construction of particular conventions.

  • British Actor Julian Sands Is Frequently Seen World- Wide in Films, on Stage, and on Television
British actor Julian Sands is frequently seen world- wide in films, on stage, and on television. He trained in London at The Central School of Speech and Drama and has appeared in over 100 films including; The Killing Fields, A Room With A View, Impromptu, Leaving Las Vegas, Arachnophobia, Oceans 13, and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. On television, he is best known for his role on 24 but has also been seen on Dexter, Smallville, Ghost Whisperer and Banshee. In 2005, Julian Sands was approached by the Nobel Prize winning playwright and poet Harold Pinter, to prepare a selection of his poems for a special presentation in London. Pinter “apprenticed” Mr. Sands, spending hours sharing his feelings on how his work should be delivered. Every pause, every nuance in tone, had, and has meaning. A bond was established between these two artists- one that gives a distinctive and very personal voice to Pinter’s words. This extraordinary collaboration became the foundation for a wonderfully rich, humorous, and fascinating solo show directed by John Malkovich- A Celebration of Harold Pinter. Performances at the Edinburgh Festival in 2011 and in New York at The Irish Repertory Theatre were followed by engagements at Steppenwolf in Chicago, Herbst Theatre in San Francisco as well as in Los Angeles, Mexico City, Budapest, London, and Paris. This is an evening of Homeric theater with an extraordinary actor, great words, and an audience. Devoid of pretension or glittery trappings, A Celebration of Harold Pinter gets to the soul of the man- poet, playwright, husband, political activist, Nobel winner, mortal.

Queens for a Day: Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and the Neoliberal Project Abstract This paper moves beyond a conventional critique of Bravo's popular makeover show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy that focuses on gay stereotyping to consider how the show puts gay cultural expertise to work to reform a heterosexual masculinity that is compatible with the neoliberal moment. By analyzing 40 episodes of the show, in addition to a number of related texts, the author considers the newly public acknowledgement of gay taste and consumer expertise; the "crisis of masculinity" that requires that heterosexual men must now attend to their relationships, image, and domestic habitus; and the remaking of the straight guy into not only an improved romantic partner - the metrosexual - but a more flexible, employable worker. The author concludes by considering how camp deconstructs some of Queer Eye's most heteronormative aims, even while leaving its class and consumption rationales intact.
