Statement in Support.Indd Statement In Support of the Dominican Youth Movement USA “We recognize in its groups of young people a sign of hope for the Order, as they live a mission from within the Dominican Family, with diverse ways of belonging to it,” (ACG Rome 2010, 154). For the past 20 years young people have been invited to come together to learn about our Dominican charism. There are several programs in place that assist in promoting this mission: • Youth Preaching Workshops • The Dominican High Schools Preaching Conference • The National College “Preaching in Action” Conference • Dominican Young Adults USA • Dominican House of Hospitality In 2015, the Dominican Youth Movement USA (DYMUSA) brought together the five different programs engaging young people of high school age through their young adult years - unifying their support, promoting their collective social impact and creating a network for our young people to further develop their own call to preach and “Catch the Fire.” DYMUSA is a nationwide non-profit organization whose programs make the connection between the Dominican tradition of preaching and the participants’ own call to preach, while also fulfilling the demand for leadership training and preaching opportunities. The programs reinforce and expand the Dominican Charism to Christian youth and young adults; creating future leaders of the Church who will preach the Good News as they share, explore, and integrate their faith with family, community and the world. Collectively, these programs have brought Christ’s message of preaching to over 4,000 young people over the years. We pledge to be partners in this mission to spread the Charism to youth and young adults and to support the Dominican Youth Movement USA. • We Recognize the need to expand the reach of Dominican youth programs. • We Believe that young people are searching for a way to connect spiritually and ethically to their broader world. • We Know that the Dominican tradition of preaching speaks to our youth and helps them to fulfill their own search for God, community and a sustainable life.
