Holly Hafemeyer recorded her 1,000th career kill as she led the Vikings over Winona State in straight sets on Friday. One night later, head coach Ashley Buckley earned her 100th career victory as a head coach and became the fourth coach in Augustana volleyball history to reach the century mark in wins. The Vikings swept Upper Iowa on Saturday, paced by Augustana’s big three of Hafemeyer, Courtney Ysker, and Taylor Hrdlichka. Those three combined for 36 kills in the Vikings’ win over the Peacocks. Holly Hafemeyer (MB, 6-3, Sr., Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) recorded her 1,000th kill as a Viking on Friday night as her 28 kills (4.6/set) led Augustana to a pair of wins on the road. Hafemeyer needed just two kills to become the 21st player in Augustana volleyball history with 1,000 career kills. The senior middle blocker finished the night with 15 kills (5.0/set), swinging at a .402 clip on the night. Hafemeyer moved into 20th all-time in the Viking record books after adding 13 more kills in Augustana’s second consecutive sweep. Hafemeyer added two blocks, seven digs, and an ace on the weekend which she hit .371 on the weekend. Marissa Johnson (S, 5-8, So., Omaha, Neb./Burke HS) dished out 86 assists in six sets (14.33/set) as the Vikings swept Winona State and Upper Iowa over the weekend. Johnson set up 41 kills on Friday night and notched her seventh double-double of the season with 10 digs against the War- riors. In Saturday evening’s sweep, Johnson dished out 45 assists (15.0/set) helping the Vikings to a .295 attack percentage in a win over Winona State. Johnson has earned a 12.80 assist/set mark so far this season with 865 total this year. Courtney Ysker (OH, 5-9., Jr., Windom, Minn./Windom-Area HS) led the Viking defense with 34 digs as Augustana held its opponents to a .145 attack percentage in two road wins this weekend. Ysker scooped up 20 digs in just three sets of work (6.67/set) against Upper Iowa on Saturday evening and recorded 14 more the night before against Winona State. The junior outside hitter added a pair of blocks against Upper Iowa on top of her match-high 13 kills. McDonough has come on strong the past few weeks, averaging 3.70 kills per set over the past six matches. McDonough had 13 kills and 10 digs while hitting .435 in Friday’s sweep of Sioux Falls and had 10 kills and 10 digs with a .381 attack percentage and four blocks in Saturday’s straight set win over #6 SMSU. Amanda Konetchy (S, 5’7”, Sr., Victoria, Minn. / Chaska HS) once again facilitated a strong Concordia attack by picking up 70 assists (11.67 per game) in the Golden Bears pair of sweeps over Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State this weekend. She also chipped in 13 digs, three blocks and two aces in the two matches. Konetchy assisted on 40 of 46 kills for CU on Friday and 30 of their 37 on Saturday. Taylor Dordan (Libero, 5’6”, So., Blaine, Minn. / HS) collected 26 digs (4.33 per game) to lead the Golden Bear defense for the weekend. On Friday she contributed 15 digs and added a kill, and Saturday she contributed 11 digs, an assist and an ace. She helped a Golden Bear defense that held their opponents to .100 hitting for the two matches. She has gone in double digits in digs in 15 of the Golden Bears’ 20 matches. Concordia (19-1, 11-0 NSIC) moved into sole possession of first place after their fifth consecutive weekend conference sweep to begin the season. Concordia took down Sioux Falls 25-17, 25-16, 25-20 on Friday and held the Cougars to just .107 hitting as a team. Satur- day was much of the same as the Golden Bears took the three sets 25-15, 25-18, 25-16 and held the #6 SMSU Mustangs to an .092 at- tack percentage for the match. U-Mary defeated Bemidji State on Friday night in five sets and fell to Minnesota Crookston on Saturday in four sets. Several U-Mary players set career-highs in Friday’s match against BSU. Alexis Jacobs (OH, 5-11, R-Fr., Bismarck, N.D. / Century HS) tied her career-high with 19 kills and set a new career-high with 19 digs for her third double-double of the sea- son. Janell Finkbeiner (S, 5-8, Fr., Ramsey, Minn. / Elk River HS) set new career-highs with 52 assists and 18 digs. Allison Adams (MB, 6-0, Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest HS) also had a career night finishing with a career-best 18 kills while hitting .342. The Marauders momentum was stalled against the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles as a disappointing of- fensive performance led to a loss. One bright spot for U-Mary in the match was Paige Smith (MB, 5-11, So., Jordan, Minn. / Jordan HS) who finished with a team-high eight kills and two solo blocks. Sierra Trost (Fr., S, Ham Lake, Minn.) averaged 10.7 assists per set on the weekend as she paced the Golden Eagles to a sweep on the weekend with a dominant 3-0 win over Minot State Friday and 3-1 win over U-Mary Saturday. Trost tallied 46 assists in four sets for an average of 11.5 assists per set in Saturday’s win over U-Mary while she notched 29 assists against U-Mary. The Bulldogs opened the 2013 season with seven straight three-set sweeps on their home court. Senior outside hitter Kate Lange took a huge leap towards Vicky Braegelman for most kills in a UMD career as she now sits 41 away from the all-time leader and will likely capture that mark this week. The Bulldogs play three match-ups and will have a short turnaround from just their second loss of the season as they travel to St. Cloud State on Tuesday. Offensive POW: Senior outside hitter Kate Lange collected 20 kills in each of the Bulldogs’ two matches for 40 on the week, an average of 5.71 per set. She added three solo blocks, four service aces, and 23 digs while attacking at a .333 kill percentage on 84 swings. Sophomore setter Ashley Hinsch collected 95 assists in just a pair of matches, averaging 13.57 per-game. She also had a good week defensively at the net with 13 total blocks (four solo, nine assists). Casie Baer (S, 5-8, So., Canby, Minn. / Canby HS), after missing two weekends with an injury, made a successful return to the Dragons’ two-setter attack last weekend and helped the team to a 1-1 mark. She had 39 set assists, averaging 5.57 per set, and also added 10 digs. Amber Krenske (L/DS, 5-7, So., Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS) had 39 digs in two matches last week, including 28 in a four-set win over St. Cloud State on Saturday. Krenske averaged 7.0 digs per set in that match, and averaged 5.57 for the week. Dixon finished with 33 kills and 19 digs, including a 16-kill, 17-dig effort in the win over BSU. She averaged 5.5 kills per set on the weekend. #2 Emily Byrne (S, 5-7, Jr., Reno, Nev. / Damonte Ranch High School) finished off a big weekend with 49 assists in a 3-0 sweep on the road at Bemidji State Saturday, helping Minot State to its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference road win of the season. Byrne finished with 85 assists in two matches, averaging 14.16 per set as the Beavers split NSIC matches. She has 638 assists on the season and 2,752 in her three seasons at MISU. She also finished with 18 digs in the two matches. Minot State finished with a split of a pair of matches on the weekend, falling 3-0 at Minnesota Crookston Friday, before re- bounding for a 3-0 sweep of their own over Bemidji State Saturday. It was the MISU Beavers first road win in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this year. #4 Jen Dixon (OH, 5-9, Jr., Brandon, Manitoba / Vincent Massey High School) led the way on offense both nights, picking up 33 kills in two matches, including a solid 16-kill, 17-dig effort against BSU. The win over UMD was the Wolves’ first against the Bulldogs since 2000. Chambers also had eight total blocks and 16 digs in the two matches. Against St. Cloud, Chambers hit an incredible career-high .621 in the sweep and didn’t record a single attack error in the match. Drew Smith, So., Ames, Iowa, Ames HS totaled 88 total assists over the weekend (12.6 per set) in NSU’s two wins. Smith also recorded 18 digs and five blocks in the two matches. Set up a Wolves offense that hit .369 against SCSU and had just six attack errors. In the upset over UMD, Smith recorded her fifth double-double of the season as she registered 48 assists and 12 digs in the victory. Junior Emily Johnson recorded her 1,000th career kill and junior Kate Hart added 10 terminations, but No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul collected 47 kills and held USF to a .107 attack percentage as the Golden Bears knocked off the Cougars in straight sets, (25-17, 25-16, 25-20) Friday night at the Gan- gelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn. Johnson became the first player since 2010 (Danielle Roers) to join the Cougars’ 1,000 Kill Club with her final stab of the match. The former Platte-Geddes star finished with eight terminations on the night. On Saturday, at least 10 kills apiece from three different players paced Sioux Falls volleyball to a 3-2 (16-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-11) comeback win over MSU-Mankato Saturday night at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn. The Cougars rallied from a 2-0 deficit for their first-ever victory against the Mavericks and are now 3-3 in five-setters this season. Johnson and Kate Hart and Emily Johnson both floored 11 kills, while freshman Jordan Calef finished with 10 terminations and team- best .381 (10-2-21) attack percentage. North- ern State and SCSU entered Friday’s contest tied for third place in the NSIC, both holding 6-3 conference records. The Wolves came out on top as they took down St. Cloud State in three straight sets with scores of 16-25, 16-25 and 21-25. As a team the Huskies posted a low .079 hitting percentage throughout the match, compared to Northern State’s .369 hitting percentage. Ellie Dietzen (Black Creek, Wis.) led SCSU with 11 kills and a .348 attack percentage. Erin Ohlemann (Golden Valley) posted a double-double as she dished out 27 assists and collected 10 digs. The St. Cloud State volleyball team took on an evenly matched MSU Moorhead team on Saturday afternoon in Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies had a late fourth-set comeback, but it wasn’t enough to overpower the Dragons of MSU Moorhead. St. Cloud State fell 1-3 with set scores of 24-26, 25-16, 17-25, and 26-28. Sophomore middle hitter Kellan Flynn (Tomahawk, Wis.) led all players with a season-high 17 kills. Flynn finished the match with a .429 attack percentage and added five blocks. Senior middle hitter Ellie Dietzen had 11 kills in the match. Dietzen posted a .276 attack percentage and contributed eight blocks. Dani Domeier (Norwood Young America) sparked the Huskies in their fourth-set battle. Domeier had six kills in the final ten plays of the game to keep the Huskies alive before finally falling 26-28.
