If you are one of those breeders privileged enough to be able to use the highest-priced stallions, the result of the 2,000 Guineas was excellent news. Victory went to Henrythenavigator, whose sire Kingmambo commanded a fee of $225,000 at the time of conception in 2004. Exactly how much Kingmambo merits this sort of fee is reflected in the fact that Henrythenavigator is no less than his eighth individual Classic Anyone who looked only at the bare facts of Proud winner in Britain or France. Proud Spell Citizen=s racing record might have struggled to enthuse Happily, there was also excellent about this young stallion when he started out at Airdrie trackphotographer.com news for breeders who have to Stud in 2004. After all, he had managed to win only operate on a much more modest three of his 16 starts and gained only one stakes budget.

  • Overview Friday
OVERVIEW This year’s Breeders’ Cup races are at Santa Anita in southern California. The highlight may be the showdown between the highest earning horse in American history, California Chrome, and Arrogate who ran one of the fast races ever in winning the Travers in the BC Classic. But Friday’s Distaff is pretty exciting also with unbeaten three year old Songbird facing Beholder and Stellar Wind. There’s also the Mile on Saturday in which superstar filly Tepin tries to beat males for the second year in a row. The Turf, also on Saturday, has the filly that won the prestigious Arc in Paris last month facing top males including some pretty good ones from America. I’m going to list my top contenders, in order, for each race. The horses listed are the ones I think have a strong shot of winning. In many cases the best bet may not be the top horse. Longshots win in the BC all the time and its worth going after a few price plays. My preferred wagers are daily doubles and pick threes in which I advise using all of my listed horses in each race. These picks are made before any races are run. I will be flexible and so should you. If one trainer’s horses are over- or under-achieving, move the rest up or down. If the track seems to be biased toward a particular running style that has to be factored in as well. In other words, I might change my mind but the picks here won’t be able to be updated.

  • 141St Longines Kentucky Oaks Post-Race News Conference Friday, May 1, 2015 Churchill Downs
141st Longines Kentucky Oaks Post-Race News Conference Friday, May 1, 2015 Churchill Downs JOHN ASHER: At the podium, is Dr. Keith Latson. He is the American Association of Equine Practitioners on-call veterinarian for the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks. We're very happy to have Dr. Latson here. He was here with us last year and back with us here, succeeding Dr. Larry Bramlage in that job. Number 11, Sarah Sis, pulled up and did not finish in the Kentucky Oaks. And Dr. Latson has come forward. We appreciate him stopping by to give us an update on her condition. Again, this regards Number 11, Sarah Sis, who did not finish in the Kentucky Oaks. Dr. Latson. DR. KEITH LATSON: Thanks, John. Gary Stevens eased Sarah Sis to a stop about midstretch because she just didn't feel right to him. Nothing specific that he could identify while he was on top of her. She just didn't feel right. He hopped off, and Dr. Will Farmer attended to Sarah Sis immediately. And it was obvious that she was standing on all four legs comfortably, no apparent injury to any of her limbs. She walked comfortably to be loaded on the equine ambulance where Dr. Liz Santschi attended to her for the ride back to the barn. When she was unloaded from the ambulance at the barn, Dr. Foster Northrop had a look at her. And she was still walking. Sarah Sis was still walking comfortably in the barn and was being treated for mild heat exhaustion. So it was a precautionary measure to take her back in the ambulance and for Gary Stevens to wrap up on her and ask her to stop.
