Previous meetings • Moussa Konaté struck twice on matchday one as Sion beat Rubin 2-1 in the Russian side's first encounter with Swiss opponents. • Sion's only previous encounters with Russian opposition came in the 1997/98 UEFA Cup first round. They lost 1-0 at home against FC Spartak Moskva then drew the return leg 2-2 in Moscow. However, the game was replayed after it was discovered that the goalposts were not the regulation height. Spartak won that match 5-1. Form guide • Without a win in Group B, Rubin have been low scorers this season – they have not registered more than once in their last seven UEFA games. • Sion are unbeaten in Group B, where they have not conceded more than once in a single match. • Rubin successfully navigated their way through to the round of 32 in all three of their previous UEFA Europa League group stage campaigns. • Sion are featuring in the group stage of a major UEFA competition for the first time. Trivia and links • The journey from Sion to Kazan is over 3,000km. • Sion's Latvia goalkeeper Andrijs Vaņins has some Russian experience, having played for FC Moskva from 2003–05 – though he did not break into the first team. • Sion striker Konaté also played in Russia with FC Krasnodar from 2012–14. Konaté and Rubin's Sergei Kislyak were team-mates at Krasnodar for the first half of the 2012/13 season. The coaches • Valeri Chaly is in temporary charge at Rubin, following Rinat Bilyaletdinov's dismissal in September. A lower-league player in the Soviet Union, he was later a beach soccer and futsal trainer. Once coach of Moldova's FC Iskra-Stal, he joined Rubin after a short spell with FC Chayka Sevastopol's reserves. • A UEFA Cup finalist with FC Girondins de Bordeaux in 1996, striker Didier Tholot ended his playing career as player- coach at Sion and took charge of the club for a third time in 2014. He led Sion to Swiss Cup success in 2009 in his second stint and won that trophy again last term. 3 FC Rubin - FC Sion Thursday 26 November 2015 - 17.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Kazan Arena, Kazan Team facts FC Rubin Kazan Formed: 1958 Nickname: Tatarstantsi (The Tatarstan Side) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • none Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 2 (2009) Domestic cup: 1 (2012) Ten-year record (UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup unless indicated otherwise) 2014/15: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2013/14: round of 32 2012/13: quarter-finals 2011/12: round of 32 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2010/11: round of 32 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League group stage) 2009/10: round of 16 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League group stage) 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2007/08: UEFA Intertoto Cup third round 2006/07: first round 2005/06: did not take part in UEFA club competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 4-0: Rubin v SV Zulte Waregem 03/10/13, UEFA Europa League group stage • Biggest away win 2-5: NK Maribor v Rubin 19/09/13, UEFA Europa League group stage 0-3 twice, most recently v Shamrock Rovers FC 15/09/11, UEFA Europa League group stage • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Rubin v SK Rapid Wien 26/08/04, UEFA Cup second qualifying round second leg • Heaviest away defeat 3-1 four times, most recently v Chelsea FC 04/04/13, UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg 2-0 twice, most recently v FC Barcelona 07/12/10, UEFA Champions League group stage UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup • Biggest home win 4-0: Rubin v SV Zulte Waregem (see above) • Biggest away win 2-5: NK Maribor v Rubin (see above) 0-3: Shamrock Rovers FC v Rubin (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Rubin v SK Rapid Wien (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 3-1: Chelsea FC v Rubin (see above) FC Sion Formed: 1909 Nickname: Les Sédunois (local name for Sion natives) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • None 4 FC Rubin - FC Sion Thursday 26 November 2015 - 17.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Kazan Arena, Kazan Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 2 (1997) Swiss Cup: 13 (2015) Ten-year European record (UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup unless indicated otherwise) 2014/15: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2013/14: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2011/12: play-offs 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2009/10: play-offs 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2007/08: first round 2006/07: first round 2005/06: did not take part in UEFA club competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 5-1: Sion v Galatasaray AŞ 15/09/65, European Cup Winners' Cup preliminary round first leg 4-0: Sion v AS Jeunesse Esch 23/07/97, UEFA Champions League first qualifying round first leg • Biggest away win 0-4: FC Vinnytsa v Sion 26/09/96, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round second leg • Heaviest home defeat 1-4: Sion v Galatasaray AŞ 13/08/97, UEFA Champions League second qualifying round first leg 1-4: Sion v Aberdeen FC 01/09/82, European Cup Winners' Cup preliminary round second leg 0-3 (forfeit): Sion v Celtic FC 25/08/11, UEFA Europa League play-off second leg • Heaviest away defeat 8-1: 1.
