Holmberg is making his fifth start of the season. He allowed one run over 4 1/3 innings last time out against the Orioles last Thursday. He threw two scoreless innings in relief against the Twins on May 9. Berrios is coming off one of his best outings of the season, when he gave up two runs on five hits, with six strikeouts and a walk, over eight innings in a win over the Mariners last Thursday. The right-hander has won three consecutive starts, allowing two runs in each of them. Three things to know about this game • The White Sox were 19-31 against right-handed starters this year, compared to 12-7 against lefties. • On pitches in the center of the strike zone, opponents are just 3-for-20 (.150) off Berrios this season. Their expected batting average based on quality of contact is barely higher at .170. That's the second lowest among pitchers who have ended at least 20 at-bats with a center-cut pitch this season. • Chicago's starting pitchers have just five quality starts over their last 27 games. White Sox add Engel to mix in center field By Patrick Donnelly / Special to MLB.com | June 20, 2017 MINNEAPOLIS -- The White Sox added another player to their center-field mix on Tuesday, when they recalled Adam Engel from Triple-A Charlotte. Engel made his Major League debut on May 27, and stayed until June 9 in his first stint with the White Sox. He hit .300 (6- for-20) and stole four bases. The man whose Twitter handle is @ManOfSteal_10 was in the starting lineup and batting leadoff for Tuesday night's series opener against the Twins. "He had a nice little stay with us -- stole some bases, had some really good at-bats," manager Rick Renteria said. "We'll see how he starts off the game, how he handles this next stint being here with us." Engel fills the roster spot vacated by Leury Garcia, who was placed on the 10-day DL (retroactive to June 16) with a sprained finger on his left hand. "The organization thought it was prudent to just let him heal," Renteria said. "Let it calm down, and allow another true center fielder to be here and fill that spot." While Garcia may not be considered Chicago's "everyday" center fielder, he's played more games there than any other White Sox player this year. Recently-acquired utility man Alen Hanson started in center field and batted leadoff Friday and Saturday in Toronto, collecting four hits and scoring four runs over the pair of White Sox victories. Engel's addition to the roster allows Hanson -- acquired off waivers from the Pirates on June 9 -- to play second base when needed, but Renteria said he wants Hanson to continue to work on his center-field play as well. The club has not yet confirmed the agreement. Burger, the No. 11 overall pick in the 2017 Draft, will receive a $3.7 million signing bonus from the White Sox, per Callis. The suggested slot value for the pick is just under $4.2 million. Burger, considered by some to be the best power hitter in the Draft, batted .328 with 22 home runs and 65 RBIs in 63 games as the starting third baseman for No. 22 Missouri State in 2017. Impressively, the 21-year-old had more walks (43) than strikeouts (38) in 247 at-bats this season. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Burger was named First Team All-America by Baseball America and the Joe Carter Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year. He is also a semifinalist for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award. Avisail trending up in All-Star Game voting Garcia moves into fifth among AL outfielders By Fabian Ardaya / MLB.com | June 21, 2017 CHICAGO -- There likely aren't many in Chicago that thought the debate between Avisail Garcia and Mookie Betts for being a better player in 2017 would be a real contested one, but Garcia's breakout campaign has made it a conversation. Garcia, who homered in Tuesday's loss to the Twins, again passed Betts for fifth among American League outfielders in the latest Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot update on Tuesday, posting 970,994 votes compared to the Boston outfielder's 946,510. Garcia trails Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge -- the leading vote-getter in the AL -- two-time AL MVP Mike Trout, Houston's George Springer and Cleveland's Michael Brantley. Garcia trails Brantley by just more than 30,000 votes. He's turned into a star in the middle of the White Sox order, hitting .332/.374/.538 with 10 homers and 48 RBIs. Minnesota snapped a four-game losing streak, after getting swept by Cleveland and losing its lead in the American League Central over the weekend. Chicago hit three homers, including back-to-back shots from Avisail Garcia and Matt Davidson off Twins starter Ervin Santana in the third inning, the fifth time the White Sox have hit consecutive homers this year. Santana, who came in averaging 5.3 hits allowed per nine innings, allowed a season-high 10 hits in five innings, but still earned his ninth victory. "We needed a win, and it was not how we drew it up," Minnesota manager Paul Molitor said. "You scatter 16 hits, and find a way to win. I give the offense a lot of credit for putting runs on the board." Sano clubbed his team-high 17th homer -- a two-run jack in the first with a projected distance of 425 feet, per Statcast™.
