r. Kent Brantly, medical missionary and Henderson & Chester Co. Dsurvivor, spoke at Freed-Hardeman University’s 51st annual benefit dinner Dec. 4 in Loyd Au- ditorium. The event, which generates funds for scholarships, is typically the state’s largest single night fundraiser. For Patsy Loden, Dr. James & Jennifer Thomas with FHU Students the 15th consecutive year, the dinner raised in excess of $1 million for scholarships at FHU. Brantly, who served as a medical missionary at ELWA Hospital in Monrovia, Liberia, last year found himself fighting on the front lines of the battle against the deadliest Ebola outbreak ever to occur. The Brantlys’ book, “Called for Life,” was released in July of 2015. “We believe Dr. Brantly inspired our students and guests, and he has exemplified servant leadership,” said FHU President Dr. Joe Wiley. The evening’s program featured an interview of Brantly conducted by Jackson’s Steve Bowers, an FHU alumnus and the media manager at Jackson Energy Au- thority and a talk show host at 101.5 FM WNWS News Talk Radio.
