Chicaggo Wolves Game Notes 2020-21 Chicago Wolves Game Notes ROCKFORD AT CHICAGO MARCH 27, 2021 7 P.M. AHLTV.COM OK, WHERE WERE WE? 2020-21 After the American Hockey League had wait nearly 11 months to play between the abrupt end to the TALE OF THE TAPE 2019-20 season and the start of the shortened 2021 season, it seems weird to feel out of sorts after just 13 days between games. REGULAR-SEASON SERIES 0-3-0-0 Rockford | 3-0-0-0 Chicago But that’s how everything seems after the Chicago Wolves postponed two games in accordance with LAST MEETING Feb. 16, 2021 the AHL’s COVID-19 protocols. The Wolves and Grand Rapids did not play on March 19 and March 23 in Michigan — games that have been rescheduled for April 13 and April 26 — which means tonight’s game marks Chicago’s first time in competition since March 14. During the interim, the Wolves practiced in groups large and small in order to maintain the momentum 6-9-1-0 10-2-0-1 they built during the first five-plus weeks of the season. While the Wolves’ 21 points rank seventh in the 28-team AHL, their .808 points percentage stands second in the league (trailing only the Henderson SERIES LEADERS Silver Knights) as they continue to control the Central Division in points and points percentage. ROCKFORD CHICAGO Chicago also continues to hold the AHL’s No. 1 spot in goals per game (4.39) and penalty minutes per Skater G A Pts Skater G A Pts game (18.15). AHLTV.COM GOING FOR GREATNESS 2020-21 As the Chicago Wolves and the Rockford IceHogs wrap up their four-game set over a 12-day stretch TALE OF THE TAPE (the Wolves also found time to face the Grand Rapids Griffins once), it’s intriguing to chart how the current Wolves compare with some of the great teams of the franchise’s past. REGULAR-SEASON SERIES 0-6-0-0 Rockford | 6-0-0-0 Chicago With their 4-2 win over the IceHogs Saturday night in Hoffman Estates, the Wolves improved their LAST MEETING April 3, 2021 record to 14-2-0-1. The only Wolves team that can match that is the 2007-08 crew that led the American Hockey League from start to finish on the way to hoisting the Calder Cup. John Anderson’s 2007-08 squad actually rolled out to a 13-0-1-0 start — their only defeat a 1-0 overtime loss to a Milwaukee Admirals team backstopped by Pekka Rinne. They then dropped two out of three 6-12-1-0 14-2-0-1 games, which moved them to the 14-2-1-0 record that equals the current team. They have become partners with the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche this season, so their roster does not bear much resemblance to the group that claimed the 2018 Kelly Cup.
