Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Cody Poteet (3-11) earned his first win since April 28 for the Jumbo Shrimp, as he worked seven innings where he allowed two runs (both earned) on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Chattanooga right-handed pitcher Sean Poppen (5-7) took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Eric Jagielo gave Jacksonville an early lead in the top of the second with a three-run home run to right- center field to put the Jumbo Shrimp in front 3-0. Monte Harrison continued the home run exhibition, as he led off the top of the third with a solo blast to left-center to grow Jacksonville’s lead to 4-0. Jacksonville added three more runs in the top of the fourth, with a Brian Miller RBI groundout, a Bryson Brigman RBI single, and a Joe Dunand sacrifice fly growing the lead to 7-0. After Poteet’s first four innings were scoreless, the Lookouts added their first run in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Jimmy Kerrigan to make it a 7-1 game. Anfernee Seymour continued his great night at the plate in the top of the seventh with a two-run single to left to grow the lead to 9-1. Chattanooga’s Andy Wilkins led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo home run down the right field line, his fourth straight game with a home run, to make it a 9-2 score, which would be the final. Seymour’s four-hit game was the first for him at the Double-A level, as he tied a career-high for hits in a game, and also has hit safely in the last six games for Jacksonville. Mills suffered a loss in his Double-A and Marlins organization debut last Tuesday at Pensacola, fell to the Barons last Sunday at the Baseball Grounds, and lost at Chattanooga last Friday. Mills was just acquired by the Marlins on Friday August 10 from the Philadelphia Phillies in a trade in exchange for first baseman Justin Bour. Mills had spent all of 2018 with the High-A Clearwater Threshers in the Florida State League, going 2-5 with a 3.51 ERA in 20 games and 16 starts, striking out 85 batters in 89 and two-thirds innings of work. This is the second straight season that Mills has been traded, he also was traded on July 28, 2017 from the Washington Nationals to the Phillies in exchange for left fielder Howie Kendrick. Mills was originally selected by the Nationals in the 18th round of the 2014 draft out of Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia. Suddenly Seymour: Anfernee Seymour carries a season-best six-game hitting streak into tonight’s game. Over his streak, Seymour is hitting .524 (11-21) with a home run and five runs batted in. Seymour’s best night at the plate against the Lookouts came on Tuesday where he tied a career high by going 4-for-5 with 2 RBI. Harrison & Schales S.L. Postseason All-Stars: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp outfielder Monte Harrison and third baseman Brian Schales have been named 2018 Southern league Postseason All-Stars, announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. Both Harrison, 23, and Schales, 22, have spent the entire season – the first for each in Double-A baseball – with Jacksonville and are league Postseason All-Stars for the first time in their careers. Shrimp Have Prospects: On the roster, the Jumbo Shrimp have seven players who were listed by MLB.com as Top 30 Miami Marlins prospects for the 2018 season: OF Monte Harrison (1), RHP Nick Neidert (3), OF Brian Miller (11), Joe Dunand (21), Robert Dugger (23), Bryson Brigman (26), and McKenzie Mills (29). 3 of these players came in offseason trades (Harrison, Neidert, Dugger), while Miller and Dunand were two of the first three players selected by the Marlins 2017.
