DO RSTEPWALKS Kirkstall Abbey 0.5 miles (0.8km) Kirkstal Abbey was built over eight hundred years ago by the Cistercian Monks of Kirkstall Fountains Abbey. The site is one of Europe’s Abbey House Car Park finest examples of an early Cistercian Abbey complex and is of great historical landscape and architectural importance. The monks Kirkstall Abbey, Abbey Abbey existed at Kirkstall from 1152 until 1539 House Museum when the dissolution of monasteries brought abbey life to an abrupt end. Turn left here and Gradient 1 follow the path round the Abbey remains. This S path takes you in a loop around the Abbey and back to your starting point by the gate. This would provide an alternative walk of approximately 6 miles. Cross over the Surface 1/2 W E canal at Newlay Locks and then turn right Gradient 1/3 following the canal towpath down to the next S set of locks. Return back over the canal here and then climb the steps straight in front of you. Follow this path until just before you reach the houses where you turn right. When Surface 1/2 you reach a fork take the left path through the Gradient 1/2 S woods. When you reach the gates turn immedi- ately right and follow the path along the wall. Hall Lane Continue along this path following the wall as it bears right. As the path leaves the wall continue Farnley Hall until you reach a tarmac road. At the end of Surface 1/3 here turn right into Woodhall Road and follow Gradient 2/3 this for approximately half a mile until you S reach Ravenscliffe Farm. A657 To Leeds To Shipley Just after the farm turn right down a track, Calverley continue along here until you reach a right turn into Fagley Road where you immediately turn right again to follow the Leeds Country Way alongside Fagley Beck. After approx. one mile you reach Ravenscliffe Road which you continue up until you reach Carr Road, where you turn Carr Beck right to return back to Victoria Park.
