In the 'inverted classroom' lectures become homeworks and what used to be assigned as homework becomes interactive classroom exercises. It is an alternative approach to teaching that focuses on interactions. This proposal addresses the seed grant priority area of curriculum design in the context of the Redesigning the introductory Yuliya Karpievitch statistics classroom to the introductory statistics classroom. The specific aims are: (1) develop and evaluate a teaching model for inverting an introductory statistics classroom by creating video lectures, online assessments, and interactive activities, a blueprint for inverting a classroom so to speak; (2) improve student experience in the Seed 2013 Lead inverted style to improve University of Tasmania $34,000 Barbara Holland introductory statistics unit and increase students' understanding and retention of the material. The expected outcomes of the project are: (1) improved Helen Chick student experience and student experiences at University of Tasmania (UTAS) and Texas A&M University (TAMU), which are expected to result in more students enrolling in higher Alan Adabney material retention level statistics units and choosing mathematics/statistics majors; (2) improved students' understanding and retention of the material; (3) new collaboration established between UTAS and TAMU.

This seed project will develop guidelines for educators and students to effectively prepare and undertake e-exams, and build a working prototype of an e- exam platform to be used in supervised, bring your own device (BYOD) settings that includes computer marked questions and secure electronic reticulation Processes and platform for e- The of student responses. Prior work done by Fluck at University of Tasmania will inform the design of process guidelines and technology development. Pilot e- Seed 2013 Partner exams in supervised BYOD $50,000 Andrew Fluck exams, interviews and focus groups will be used to evaluate and feedback into the prototype design and guidelines. It is anticipated that the new prototype environments University of Tasmania platform and guidelines will have sector wide relevance and applicability because it will be designed to be open, flexible and as technology neutral as possible while taking into consideration process, technology, people and pedagogical factors. Deliverables will be disseminated across the Australian higher education sector. The findings from the seed project will feed into an application for a full innovation and development project.

This project will develop state-of-the-art engineering and architectural design software tools to address key problems with current engineering and architectural design education. The tools will be built around an adaptive tutorial concept. They will help overcome the constraints of limited resources while The University of providing students with improved and personalised support when they want it and where they want it. Whereas traditional engineering science courses and courses solve cut-and-dried problems, engineering and architecture design courses serve The virtual design workshop: an up a scenario with imperfect input information and no predefined result, for which each student must devise their own solution. The tutorial assistance must Innovation & therefore adapt to what each individual student devises and not undermine the authenticity of the design task by implying a single preferred outcome. 2013 Partner on-line adaptive resource for University of $250,000 Roberto Ojeda Development A paradigm shift will be required for bringing the benefits of adaptive learning and teaching tools into engineering and architecture design courses. Earlier engineering students University of Tasmania success in developing online adaptive tutorials for engineering science courses demonstrates that we have the experience and capabilities needed for University of Western Sydney meeting this challenging task. As for the project deliverables, a virtual design workshop will be devised and implemented to provide students of engineering design with improved and personalised support on demand. Although based on an existing e-learning platform and portal, the workshop's approach and educational design will be entirely new, in order to meet the design environment where inputs are fuzzy and solutions are not predetermined.

James Cook University Medical education is a public trust. Societal changes have led the public to question the traditional self-ratification of medical professionals, asking for more Benchmarking the attainment evidence of the training and expertise of doctors. Within Australia, there has been a lack of cohesion and co-ordination of medical education, leading to an Deakin University absence of data with regard to benchmarking of assessment. This project focuses on the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Clinical of clinical competencies in Bunmi Malau-Aduli Richard Strategic Priority 2013 Partner Griffith University $210,000 competencies cannot be effectively assessed using traditional paper based assessment methods, but need to be assessed by observation in real or simulated Australian medical schools: an Turner The University of Newcastle workplace settings. OSCEs are an internationally recognised 'gold standard' method for assessing clinical competence.
