FORD AWARD Presented to the team whose student-athletes have demonstrated a special commitment to participation in local community outreach programs. FOOTBALL ‘Set the Expectation’ game versus Arizona State - promoted and raised awareness for sexual and relationship violence that gained national recognition ... team was the first college football program in the country to sign the ‘Set the Expectation’ pledge ... children’s hospital visit in Sydney, Australia ... Junior Cardinal program - included visits to the children’s hospital, honoring a child at a game, visits with players at practice, etc. ... visited an underprivileged foster care agency and attended a dinner while in San Antonio for the Alamo Bowl ... volunteered at Children’s Champions event to promote fitness ... Read Across America at local elementary schools ... visited the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital ... participated in SAAC’s A, B, Trees, promoting literacy with kids, and Trick or Tree-t to promote fitness ... coaches, families and staff have also participated in the various community outreach events. Men’s Soccer NCAA Champions SHERRY POSTHUMUS CLUB SPORTS TEAM OF THE YEAR AWARD Presented to the club sports team that attains the highest standard of athletic performance or that demonstrated a special commitment to participation in local community outreach programs. CYCLING CLUB The cycling club not only demonstrated what it meant to be professional and passionate on the bike, but off the bike as well. When the fires struck Santa Rosa last fall, the team organized one of the largest single, self-run donation efforts. In just over a day, they collected multiple truck-loads of clothes, toiletries and other necessities to help get our neighbors up north back on their feet. The team was thankful for all donations and everyone stepped up to do their best to help in any way possible. This selflessness also translated on the bike in races as well. The Stanford ladies team rode its heart out in a challenging road race and circuit race and podiumed at the national championships in Colorado. In the fall, the Women’s Swimming and Diving team volunteered with ‘Cycling Day at Stanford Stadium’ in partnership NCAA Champions with Stanford Athletics. The team planned routes and led rides for a group of over 30 riders. These beginner-friendly rides encouraged members of the university community to get involved in a sport while helping promote Stanford Athletics in the process. The team has strived for the highest level of athleticism and consistently competed on the national stage across multiple disciplines. The cycling club demonstrated involvement in the Stanford and Bay Area communities, produced competitive achievements and was an overall positive ambassador for club sports.
