Coach’s thoughts on 2014 class: “We had to replace a large group of seniors who finished this year, so we knew our 2014 class was going to be bigger than normal. This class represents everything that we as a coaching staff talked about when we first arrived. We wanted to find the best players we could within a four hours’ drive of campus. We had a few surprises and exceptions to the rule, but it only confirmed that we have the type of program that can bring in elite players to compliment the current players on the squad and bring another championship trophy to the trophy case. I don’t think we are overly optimistic when we say that we have come a few steps closer with the 2014 team.”

SHELBY DROPE Midfielder • 5-6 • Pontotoc, Miss. (Pontotoc HS)

Coach’s thoughts on Drope: “As a freshman at Pontotoc High School, Shelby led the team in scoring and to the 4A State High School Championship game. She was even named “Player of the Year” by the local newspaper. Honors not typically given to freshmen. Shelby hasn’t stopped gaining the honors, she is a key part of her club team’s defense playing the holding midfielder position. She is very strong techni- cally and seems to be comfortable with the physical side of the game if needed. If she does get into the attacking position she has the composure to make the most of her chances. “

(Palm Harbor University, HS)

Coach’s thoughts on Geier: “Mackenzie is a member of the same team that new Demon goalkeeper Alex Latham is on. She was the heart and soul of the defensive backline that finished third in the nation in the ECNL. To have both her and Alex is something we are thrilled about. Mackenzie doesn’t know how to lose, she has been a winner since U12 when winning Florida State Cup and she has continued to win while playing at a higher and higher level. She has received numerous awards in high school from All- County, and All-Conference to the team defensive award. We lover her composure out there and she has played against some of the absolute best forwards in the country in her age group and she continually comes out on top. We are thrilled to have her compliment our returning defensive players.”

She is composed on the ball and has really developed her vision, seeing how the game is unfolding at that moment and making the right decision with the ball. She has good speed, was a state qualifier for the High School State Track meet as an eighth grader.
