(Heráclito, 500 a.C) Não se pode entrar no mesmo rio nem uma única vez (Crátilo, 400 a.C) O caminho para cima e o para baixo são um só e a mesma coisa (Heráclito, 500 a.C) RESUMO O uso de abordagens baseadas em elementos de jogos (metodologias, técnicas, ferramentas, entre outras) que auxiliam o ensino de algoritmo e afins, apesar de recente vem ganhando destaque em publicações acadêmicas. Isso porque, o uso dessas abordagens pode contribuir para aumentar o envolvimento e o engajamento de estudantes em disciplinas elementares das áreas de Tecnologia de Informação (TI). O objetivo deste trabalho é investigar, a partir de um Mapeamento Sistemático da Literatura (MSL), as principais abordagens baseadas em elementos de jogos que vêm sendo empregadas como apoio ao processo de ensino e aprendizagem de algoritmo e introdução à programação, no contexto dos cursos de nível superior na área de TI. Ou seja, construir um mapeamento das principais tendências de pesquisas desenvolvidas que envolvam abordagens baseadas em elementos de jogos voltados ao ensino de algoritmo e programação, com o objetivo de validar os resultados por meio de evidências científicas. Realizou-se um estudo a partir do Mapeamento Sistemático da Literatura para identificar estudos primários voltados ao ensino de algoritmo e programação. Foram identificados 10.027 estudos primários, publicados entre 2006 e 2016. Os estudos preliminares mostram uma crescente preocupação em desenvolver experiências a partir de abordagens baseadas em elementos de jogos distibuidos em pelo pelos 23 países nos diversos continentes do mundo, pois em 61 artigos selecionados foram identificadas abordagens baseados em elementos de jogos, sejam eles, pelo uso de jogos sérios, elementos de jogos e de gamificação. ABSTRACT The use of element-based approaches (methods, techniques, tools, among others) that help the algorithm and related education, despite recent has been gaining prominence in academic publications. This is because the use of these approaches can contribute to increasing the involvement and engagement of students in basic disciplines of information technology (it). The aim of this study is to investigate, from a Systematic Mapping of literature (MSL), the main game elements-based approaches that have been used as support for the teaching and learning process and introduction to algorithm programming, in the context of upper-level courses in the it field. In other words, build a mapping of the main trends of researches developed involving approaches based on elements of games geared to teaching algorithm and programming, with the aim of validating the results through scientific evidence. A study from the Systematic Mapping of the literature to identify primary studies focusing on teaching algorithm and programming. 10,027 primary studies were identified, published between 2006 and 2016. Preliminary studies show a growing concern in developing experiences from approaches based on elements of games distributed by 23 countries in several continents by the world because in 61 articles selected were identified approaches based on elements of games, be they, by the use of serious games, game elements and of gamification. Schenold Chair of the Supervisory Committee: Brian Reed, Professor English The Poetics of Reflection in Digital Games explores the complex relationship between digital games and the activity of reflection in the context of the contemporary media ecology. The general aim of the project is to create a critical perspective on digital games that recovers aesthetic concerns for game studies, thereby enabling new discussions of their significance as mediations of thought and perception. The arguments advanced about digital games draw on philosophical aesthetics, media theory, and game studies to develop a critical perspective on gameplay as an aesthetic experience, enabling analysis of how particular games strategically educe and organize reflective modes of thought and perception by design, and do so for the purposes of generating meaning and supporting expressive or artistic goals beyond amusement. The project also provides critical discussion of two important contexts relevant to understanding the significance of this poetic strategy in the field of digital games: the dynamics of the contemporary media ecology, and the technological and cultural forces informing game design thinking in the ludic century. The project begins with a critique of limiting conceptions of gameplay in game studies grounded in a close reading of Bethesda's Morrowind, arguing for a new a "phaneroscopical perspective" that accounts for the significance of a "noematic" layer in the gameplay experience that accounts for dynamics of player reflection on diegetic information and its integral relation to ergodic activity.

A representation was proposed for representing a game’s rules with a tree structure of logically-connected rules, and this problem was shown to be one of a generalized class of problems in mapping text to a hierarchical, logical structure. Then a keyword-based entity- and relation-extraction system was proposed for mapping rulebook text into the corresponding logical representation, which achieved an f-measure of 11% with a high recall but very low precision, due in part to many statements in the rulebook offering strategic advice or elaboration and causing spurious rules to be proposed based on keyword matches. The keyword-based approach was compared to a machine learning approach, and the former dominated with nearly twenty times better precision at the same level of recall. This was due to the large number of rule classes to extract and the relatively small data set given this is a new problem area and all data had to be manually annotated.

    Endogenous Market Power Marek Weretkay August 5, 2010 Abstract In this paper we develop a framework to study thin markets, in which all traders, buyers, and sellers are large, in the sense that they all have market power (also known as bilateral oligopoly). Unlike many IO models, our framework does not assume a priori that some traders have or do not have market power because “they are large or small.” Here, market power arises endogenously for each trader from market clearing and optimization by all agents. This framework allows for multiple goods and heterogeneous traders. We de…ne an equilibrium and show that such equilibrium exists in economies with smooth utility and cost functions and is determinate. The model suggests that price impact depends positively on the convexity of preferences or cost functions of the trading partners. In addition, the market power of di¤erent traders reinforces that of others. We also characterize an equilibrium outcome: Compared to the competitive model, the volume of trade is reduced and hence is Pareto ine¢ cient.     Requirements for a General Game Mechanics Framework Imre Hofmann In this article I will apply a meta-theoretical approach to the question of how a game mechanics framework has to be designed in order to fulfil its task of ade- quately depicting or modeling the reality of game mechanics. I had two aims in mind when starting my research. I studied existing game theories and three game mechanics theories in particular in order to evaluate the state of the art of game mechanics theory. (Descriptive aim) The second aim followed on from these studies. With the results of my research I wanted to define the attributes a com- prehensive and general game mechanics theory might or – rather – needed to have. What are the general properties that such a theory should display? (Norma- tive aim) In my opinion the underlying mechanics of a game may be regarded in some way as its centerpiece. The reasons for this shall become clear over the course of this article. To begin with, I would like to make two terminological clarifications. First, I am not going to examine different game mechanics and typologies or categories of game mechanics. Instead, I will take a theoretical step backwards, so to speak, on the meta-level by analyzing and comparing different theories of game me- chanics (which themselves suggest categories and typologies). Secondly, I will use the expressions “game mechanics theory” “(game mechanics) framework” and “(game mechanics) model” synonymously. Effects of a Robot’s Long-Term Cognitive Developments on Its Social Presence and People’s Social Responses Toward It KWAN MIN LEE NAMKEE PARK HAYEON SONG University of Southern California This study tests the effect of long-term artifi cial development of a robot on users’ feelings of social presence and social responses toward the robot. The study is a 2 (developmental capability: developmental versus fully matured) x 2 (number of participants: individual ver- sus group) between-subjects experiment (N = 40) in which participants interact with Sony’s robot dog, AIBO, for a month. The results showed that the developmental capability factor had signifi cant positive impacts on (a) perceptions of AIBO as a lifelike creature, (b) feel- ings of social presence, and (c) social responses toward AIBO. The number of participants factor, however, affected only the parasocial relationship and the buying intention variables. No interaction between the two factors was found. These individuals, who are limited in their ability to use self-initiated mobility, are typically not considered to be candidates for power wheelchair use. The Power Wheelchair Trainer provides a motorized platform that allows a manual wheelchair to be temporarily converted into a power wheelchair, thereby permitting these individuals to practice using powered mobility while optimally positioned in their own customized seating systems. To accommodate the needs of these individuals, the Power Wheelchair Trainer incorporates additional control features not available in commercial systems.

Milgrom Abstract A family of ascending package auction models is introduced in which bidders may determine their own packages on which to bid. In the proxy auction (revelation game) versions, the outcome is a point in the core of the exchange economy for the reported preferences. When payoffs are linear in money and goods are substitutes, sincere reporting constitutes a Nash equilibrium and the outcome coincides with the Vickrey auction outcome. Even when goods are not substitutes, ascending proxy auction equilibria lie in the core with respect to the true preferences. Compared to the Vickrey auction, the proxy auctions generate higher equilibrium revenues, are less vulnerable to shill bidding and collusion, can handle budget constraints much more robustly, and may provide better ex ante investment incentives.
