Left at light onto Rt-172 West. Right onto R-22 North at Bedford Village. Harvey is 7 miles north of Bedford Village on the right. From the George Washington Bridge: I-87 north to I-287 east. Then take I-684 north. Take exit 6 (Katonah, Cross River and Rt-35). Turn right at traffic light at top of exit onto Rt-35, then right on Rt-22 South. Right on Boston Post Rd (west). Go approx. 3/4 mile, past 5 lights, to intersection of Boston Post Rd and Weaver St. Left on Hommocks Rd. Follow signs to rink. From Merritt/Hutchinson Parkways Southbound: Take Hutch Exit #20 toward New Rochelle/Scarsdale Turn left onto Weaver St, Rt. 125 and travel about 3 miles Cross Boston Post Road at traffic light (Gap on your left, Chase bank on right) – Weaver St becomes Hommocks Road– you should see a sign for Hommocks Park Ice Rink. Turn right into driveway/parking lot in front of Hommocks Middle School, drive to far end of parking lot. Rink is located behind the outdoor pools – follow the sidewalk around the pool enclosure. From NYC: I-95 to Exit 18A (Fenimore Rd., Mamaroneck). Right at stop on Fenimore Rd. Follow Fenimore Rd. approx. ½ mile (3rd traffic light) to Boston Post Road (US 1). Right on Boston Post Rd. (west). Go approx. 3/4 mile and at 5th traffic light turn left on Hommocks Rd. Follow signs to rink, take first right turn into parking lot. From NYC (alternate): Hutchinson River Pkwy to Exit 20 (Weaver St./Rt.12S). Exit 20 Southbound; Exit 21 Northbound. Make a left on Weaver St (south) to Boston Post Rd. approx. 2.5 miles. Crossover Boston Post Rd. Hommocks School will be directly in front of you. Follow signs to rink; take first right into parking lot. 13 Ice Hutch Garden Ave Mount Vernon, NY 914-699-6787 From Hutchinson Parkway North: • Follow the Hutchinson Parkway to Exit 8, Sanford Blvd. • At the end of the Exit 8 ramp turn left • About 150ft up, take a left onto Garden Ave • The Ice Hutch is the large bubble ahead on the left just past the batting cages • Enter the rink by going through the snack bar From Hutchinson Parkway South: • Follow the Hutchinson Parkway to Exit 9, Wolfs Lane • Turn right and then next right onto Sanford Blvd. • Turn left onto Garden Ave. • The Ice Hutch is the large bubble ahead on the left just past the batting cages • Enter the rink by going through the snack bar 14 Ice Time Sports Complex 21 Lakeside Rd.

    THE OFFICE OF THE QUEENS BOROUGH PRESIDENT Strategic Policy Statement 2014 Melinda Katz Queens Borough President The Borough of Queens is home to more than 2.3 million residents, representing more than 120 countries and speaking more than 135 languages1. The seamless knit that ties these distinct cultures and transforms them into shared communities is what defines the character of Queens. The Borough’s diverse population continues to steadily grow. Foreign-born residents now represent 48% of the Borough’s population2. Traditional immigrant gateways like Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Corona, and Flushing are now communities with the highest foreign-born population in the entire city3. Immigrant and Intercultural Services The immigrant population remains largely underserved. This is primarily due to linguistic and cultural barriers. Residents with limited English proficiency now represent 28% of the Borough4, indicating a need for a wide range of social service support and language access to City services. All services should be available in multiple languages, and outreach should be improved so that culturally sensitive programming can be made available. The Borough President is actively working with the Queens General Assembly, a working group organized by the Office of the Queens Borough President, to address many of these issues. Cultural Queens is amidst a cultural transformation. The Borough is home to some of the most iconic buildings and structures in the world, including the globally recognized Unisphere and New York State Pavilion. Areas like Astoria and Long Island City are establishing themselves as major cultural hubs. In early 2014, the New York City Council designated the area surrounding Kaufman Astoria Studios as the city’s first arts district through a City Council Proclamation The areas unique mix of adaptively reused residential, commercial, and manufacturing buildings serve as a catalyst for growth in culture and the arts.

    PIN X735.82 Van Wyck Expressway Capacity and Access Improvements to JFK Airport Project DDR/DEIS CHAPTER 2 Project Context PIN X735.82 Van Wyck Expressway Capacity and Access Improvements to JFK Airport Project DDR/DEIS Project Context 2.1 PROJECT HISTORY As part of a post-World War II $200-million development program, and in anticipation of an increased population size, the City of New York sought to expand its highway and parkway system to allow for greater movement throughout the five boroughs. The six-lane Van Wyck Expressway (VWE) was envisioned to help carry passengers quickly from the newly constructed Idlewild Airport (present-day John F. Kennedy International Airport [JFK Airport]) to Midtown Manhattan. In 1945, the City of New York developed a plan to expand the then-existing Van Wyck Boulevard into an expressway. The City of New York acquired the necessary land in 1946 and construction began in 1948, lasting until 1953. The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) bridges for Jamaica Station, which were originally constructed in 1910, were reconstructed in 1950 to accommodate the widened roadway. The designation of the VWE as an interstate highway started with the northern sections of the roadway between the Whitestone Expressway and Kew Gardens Interchange (KGI) in the 1960s. By 1970, the entire expressway was a fully designated interstate: I-678 (the VWE). In 1998, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) began work on AirTrain JFK, an elevated automated guideway transit system linking downtown Jamaica to JFK Airport. AirTrain JFK utilizes the middle of the VWE roadway to create an unimpeded link, connecting two major transportation hubs in Queens.

    Chapter 8 TRANSPORTATION 8.1 Existing Traffic Conditions and Trends Bedford’s transportation system is comprised of highways and streets, a commuter rail line, bus routes, and sidewalks. The town’s rural, low-density and tri-center pattern favored the growth of auto-related transportation. Most of Bedford’s residents drive – to shop, to commute, for recre- ation. The MetroNorth Harlem line represents the only alternative transportation mode being used to a significant degree primarily by residents commuting to New York City, and the majority of these commuters drive to the train stations. The town is served by interstate and state highways and has a well-developed network of local roads. Interstate 684, the Saw Mill River Parkway, and State Highways 22, 35, 117, 121, and 172 traverse the town. Interstate 684 and the Saw Mill River Parkway both cross through the town in a north-south direction. These highways, together with the Metro-North Railroad (Harlem Line), form the backbone of Bedford’s transportation system. The circulation pattern in the town generally flows according to the functional classification sys- tem established by the 1972 Town Plan and updated for the 1988 Town Development Plan. Some of the state highways and local roads have become adversely impacted by high traffic vol- umes and speeds. Traffic circulating between Pound Ridge, New Canaan, Stamford, Greenwich and Somers, and the local railroad stations, I-684 and the Saw Mill River Parkway use a variety of local roadways. Route 172, Route 22, Harris Road, and Cherry Street are examples of roads and highways that have seen increasing volumes of through traffic.
