The WNBA Sky game on June 2, beginning at 5 PM, scored strong ratings against the competition. The game earned a .9 HH rating and a 2 share in Live SD and a .4 rating and a 1 share with M25-54. At the same time but in another arena, the Chicago Fire soccer game on WPWR the same day beginning at 4 PM earned a .1 HH rating and a <1 share in Live SD and M25-54 with some quarter hours not reporting. Weigel Broadcasting Co. and the Chicago Sky expect both the team and the ratings to have a strong showing in the next games; they’ll be on The U Too on Friday, June 7 at 7 PM and Sunday, June 9 at 5 PM. Abstract When Netflix launched in April 1998, Internet video was in its infancy. Eighteen years later, Netflix has developed into the first truly global Internet TV network. Many books have been written about the five broadcast networks – NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and the CW – and many about the major cable networks – HBO, CNN, MTV, Nickelodeon, just to name a few – and this is the fitting time to undertake a detailed analysis of how Netflix, as the preeminent Internet TV networks, has come to be. This book, then, combines historical, industrial, and textual analysis to investigate, contextualize, and historicize Netflix's development as an Internet TV network. The book is split into four chapters. The first explores the ways in which Netflix's development during its early years a DVD-by-mail company – 1998-2007, a period I am calling "Netflix as Rental Company" – lay the foundations for the company's future iterations and successes. Residents have little faith that their governments are spending their tax dollars well – and for good reason. The state’s most recent spending plan is out of balance by as much as $1.5 billion, and includes $54.2 million in wasteful spending and $27 million in pork-barrel spending. The line between pork and waste is admittedly blurry, but generally speaking, pork-barrel spending refers to special projects lawmakers sneak into the state budget that satisfy interests in their district. These projects may be appropriate to fund under different circum- stances or by different means. Waste, on the other hand, refers to spending that does not serve a legitimate purpose of government. Given that lawmakers made the 1,245-page budget public just hours before voting on it, the amount of both waste and pork may come as a surprise to them as well as to their constituents.

CRANKING UP ‘THE AMP’ BY LISA WHITE UPGRADES, REBRANDING DESIGNED TO FURTHER HEIGHTEN PROFILE OF ST. AUGUSTINE AMPHITHEATRE AND PONTE VEDRA CONCERT HALL . Amphitheatre kicked o its main-stage concert season March 1 with a sold-out show by Alabama, guests at the Florida venue couldn’t help but notice the changes. The 4,000-seat facility had been expanded by 700 seats, and a new food truck area provided fresh local options beyond the traditional concession stands. “We sell out a lot of our shows quickly, so we knew the demand was Athere and the ability to bring in bigger acts,” said Gabe Pellicer, assistant director of the venue and the adjacent Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, about the new seats. “We knew we had a lot of momentum, so we went for it.” The changes coincide with a rebranding for what’s now being called The Amp St. Augustine, including new graphics and brand colors and a fresh tagline — “Big Acts, Small Venue” — that echoes Pellicer’s words. The rebranding eorts are among a continuing eort to create a nationally known venue in a small market. “We felt like we ran into a fork in the road,” Pellicer said. “Do we create more revenue, more shows or a better experience? We’re a government-run venue that doesn’t have to chase prots, so we decided to make it the best we possibly could.” Owned and operated by the cultural events division of St. Johns County, The Amp hosts over 40 concerts and multiple community events annually, including the Saturday Farmers Market, held year-round, and the Sing Out Loud Festival, Florida’s largest free live entertainment festival and benet, held every weekend in September.
