Humorist Jean Shepherd's memoir of growing up in the midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher and even Santa Claus himself, at Goldblatt's Department Store. The consistent response: "You'll shoot your eye out." Based on the beloved motion picture of the same name. LIST OF CHARACTERS: (Note: Ages given are those of the character and not necessarily the actor.) Ralphie Parker (9-10) -- Sweet kid, who desperately wants a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas and will do anything to get it.
Ralph Parker (35-45) -- Ralphie as an adult. The narrator, who also plays various other small roles in the production.
The Mother (45-50) -- Ralphie's mother.
The Old Man (45-50) -- Ralphie's father.
Randy (6-8) -- Ralphie's brother.
Miss Shields (25-50) -- Ralphie's teacher. NOTE: The director may also Scut Farkus (9-11) -- A bully. be casting additional nonspeaking roles. Flick (9-10) -- Ralphie's friend and classmate.
Schwartz (9-10) -- Ralphie's friend and classmate.
Esther Jane Alberry (9-10) -- Ralphie's classmate.
Helen Weathers (9-10) -- Ralphie's classmate.
Auditioners should come prepared to read from the show. A copy of the script will be available at Rochester Hills Public Library. Rehearsal dates will be listed at auditions; please be prepared to list any conflicts.
