Jacksonville right-hander Kolton Mahoney (3-6) pitched a season-long 6 2/3 innings, holding Montgomery (20-15 second half, 57-48 overall) scoreless for the first six. His throwing error allowed leadoff batter Nathan Lukes to reach first base in the first inning, but Lukes was later tagged out trying to score, when third baseman Chris Diaz threw to catcher Rodrigo Vigil. Mahoney also induced double plays in the third and sixth innings. With the game scoreless in the top of the seventh inning, Biscuits catcher Brett Sullivan reached first base when second baseman Justin Twine dropped his ground ball. Shortstop Jake Cronenworth singled to center field and took second base when the throw went to third base. Mahoney then exited after allowing an unearned run on five hits and no walks with two strikeouts. Right-hander Kyle Keller entered, and on his first pitch, Vigil threw to Diaz at third base to pick off Cronenworth and end the inning. Keller also pitched a scoreless eighth inning. Burke pitched six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts. Jim O’Toole, Jim Maloney, Bob Purkey, Jim Tsitouris and Joe Nuxhall combined to pitch 32 consecutive scoreless innings MLB.COM Inbox: Can the Reds depend on Bailey? Beat reporter Mark Sheldon answers questions from fans By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com | @m_sheldon | June 22nd, 2017 + 43 COMMENTS What can the Reds expect from Homer Bailey? -- Charlie on Facebook live It's a good question. Bailey will be activated from the 60-day disabled list on Saturday to make his season debut vs. the Nationals. He's a bit of an X-factor, because it's hard to place high expectations on someone who has had three elbow surgeries and only eight starts since August 2014. The last surgery was Feb. 18 to remove bone chips. But based on his rehab assignment numbers, they should expect some length and dependability. The rotation has averaged 4.93 innings per start this season. If Bailey can just go six or seven innings and keep the team in the game, the lineup should be able to do its part. What is Zack Cozart's prognosis on the DL with a right quad strain? -- Molly on Facebook live Cozart, who went on the DL on Monday, was expecting to begin baseball activity on Friday in Washington after a few days of rest. He was optimistic that he could be ready for activation on the first day he is eligible, which is Wednesday.

Minor League Transactions: Sept. 26-Oct. 2 • The first wave of free agents entered the marketplace on Oct. 1 as 43 players elected free agency, the majority of them under Article XX(D) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. It reads in part: “Any player who has at least three years of major league service, or who qualified as a “Super Two” player . and whose contract is assigned outright to a minor league club may elect, in lieu of accepting such assignment, to become a free agent. In the event that such a player with at least three years of major league service does not elect free agency in lieu of accepting such assignment, he may elect free agency between the end of the then current major league season and the next following Oct. 15, unless such player is returned to a major league roster prior to making such election.” • The recalls in this installment are paperwork moves owing to the fact that, with the minor league season and playoffs concluded, players can no longer be sent on optional assignments. According to MLR 11(b)4 “A Major League Club may recall a player not to report after the conclusion of the championship season of the Minor League Club to which the player is on optional assignment but no later than October 1” Arizona Diamondbacks Signed: RHP Seth Lintz (Laredo (American Association)), RHP Dustin Loggins (Kansas City (American Association)), RHP Jacob Roberts (Bridgeport (Atlantic)), LHP Sean Mahley (Schaumburg (Frontier)), OF Dan Bowman (Lake Erie (Frontier)), OF Steve McQuail (Schaumburg (Frontier)) Elected free agency:
