TPC Summerlin’s lush bentgrass greens, numerous water features and an abundance of pine trees all contrast dramatically with undisturbed desert washes. The course features four closing holes that deliver top flight golf drama. The final charge begins with the par 4, 15th hole – a drivable par 4 that will temp most players. If the tee shot misses the green, an “up and down” birdie is possible, but not easy, due to the severely elevated and undulated green – which is surrounded by five bunkers that regularly attract stray tee shots. The 16th hole is a relatively downhill par-5 that is reachable with two good shots. The green is guarded by water short of the green, and bunkers beyond. Only a mid-iron will be necessary for the second shot, with a birdie almost a certainty. A challenging and un-nerving par-3, the 17th hole plays downhill with the green guarded closely by a lake on the left and by bunkers on the right. Par is good score and birdies are rare, should players need to make up ground. The 18th is a well-designed and strategic finishing hole which moves right to left off the tee. The green is protected on the left by a lake. An aggressive tee shot with the driver can leave the player just a short iron to a very deep green from front to back.

While the grass may not be as green, temperatures in the 50’s have softened the ground and a general lack of moisture at many courses has even brought about the use of carts for some. The optimist sees a nice long golf season ahead, the dream of golfers across the Big Sky. The pessimist cau- tions that this weather can’t maintain and April or May will put a damper on good golf weather. While we don’t have Punxsutawney Phil giving us a report on the golf season in Montana, many na- tional weather forecasts show above average temperatures slated for March-May. A few things to consider... Respect each courses policies on winter rules. If temporary greens are set up, don’t hit to the real greens. Your local superintendent will thank you! They have your best interests in mind and respectful play in March will make for good conditions during the summer. As always, repair your divots and enjoy the possibility that 2016 may be a nice long season in Montana. Helping main- tain the courses in the spring will keep conditions well during the prime weather we usually opine for when snow is on the ground this time of the year.

    SPORTING LEGENDS: SEVE BALLESTEROS SPORT: GOLF COMPETITIVE ERA: 1974 - 2008 Severiano "Seve" Ballesteros (born 9 April 1957 in Pedreña, Spain) is a Spanish golfer who was one of the sport's leading figures in the 1980s and 1990s. Ballesteros turned professional in March 1974 at the age of 16. In 1976, he burst onto the international scene with a second-place finish in The Open Championship; he went on to win the European Tour Order of Merit (money title) that year, and repeated his Order of Merit win the following two years. He would go on to win the Order of Merit six times, a record at that time (since surpassed by Colin Montgomerie).     Video Review Protocols for Televised Golf Competitions In April 2017, The R&A and the USGA established a video review working group that included representatives from the PGA TOUR, LPGA, PGA European Tour, Ladies European Tour and PGA of America. The working group’s comprehensive study of the use of video evidence in applying the Rules of Golf was completed in October 2017. One of the outcomes of the study was an agreement on the new set of video protocols that are summarised in this document. All organisations that participated in the working group have agreed to use this approach to video review and recommend that it be used by other organisations that run televised golf competitions as well. Overall Standard for Using Information from Any Credible Source When facts need to be decided in applying the Rules of Golf, players, referees and the Committee in charge of the competition will continue to consider information from any credible source, including: • Witnesses on the course, such as other players, caddies, referees, marshals and spectators, and • Video of the competition that is produced by the broadcast partner. Consideration of all available evidence remains an essential part of applying the Rules of Golf, because many things happen during play of a round that cannot be seen by the players or referees.
