Nebraska Court Rejects Newspaper Reporter's Challenge to Coverage

MLRC MediaLawLetter January 2019 Page 21 Nebraska Court Rejects Newspaper Reporter’s Challenge to Coverage of His Scuffle with Parking Attendant By Tiffany B. Gelott A Nebraska state judge dismissed a defamation case – brought, ironically, by a newspaper reporter – holding that a television station’s coverage of the reporter’s run-in with a city parking employee was substantially true and protected by the fair report privilege. See Cooper v. WOWT-Channel 6 Gray Television Group Inc., Case No. CI 18-2674 (Neb. Dist. Douglass Cty. Nov. 5, 2018). This decision provides much needed recent precedent reinforcing defamation defenses in Nebraska. The Run-In, the News Reports and the Lawsuit According to an Omaha Police Incident Report, on March 24, 2017, the Police Department received a radio call to “investigate an assault on a parking enforcement officer.” The incident began when Todd Cooper, an Omaha World-Herald reporter who covers crime, heatedly disputed a parking ticket issued by a Park Omaha employee. The parking employee, Timothy Foster, told police This decision that Cooper followed him to his vehicle, prevented him from closing provides much the door to his Park Omaha truck, and grabbed his neck, and that when needed recent Foster tried to push Cooper away, both men fell to the ground. The precedent police also took the statement of an eyewitness to the incident. reinforcing WOWT-Channel 6 in Omaha, owned by Gray Television Group, defamation defenses Inc., broadcast and posted a news report based on the Police Incident in Nebraska. -
Green Gets Finger for Film 'T
&6 THE 0 RIO N • APR I L 2 5, 200 1 I ! " , " ..~ Green gets finger for film 't , ~ DANA BUCHANAN ' I:i CONTHIIIIJTING WlllTlJ1l This is a warning: If you are not a huge fan of Tom Green and his MTV show, and if you have not been waiting to see him in all his complete, uncensored grotesque glory, then do not sec "Freddy Got Fingered." Tom Green wrote, directed and stars in "Freddy Got Fingered," and his signature brand of comedy is slathered all over this mm. Green plays Gord Brody, a 28-year old slacker who finally leaves home (to his parents elation) to attempt to become a professional animator, only to return home disappointed. Instantly the antics begin in that strange unexplainable Tom Green way. Gord just docs weird (uncomfortably weird) stuff without much rhyme or reason. If you have never before seen, or wanted to sec, someone fondle animal genitalia (horse and elephant respectively), then you might be in for a shock, to say the least. The story line of Gord wanting to be a professional animator docs seem to make perfect sense. Gord is a child in a semi adult's body, and drawing cartoons fits the character perfectly. Gord goes to Los Angeles to try to sell his work by breaking into the office of an animation executive (Anthony Michael Hall). This scene is relatively funny as Gord confounds security with his "weirdness" (for lack of a better word) and manages to get to the office of the head honcho. Then of course, there is a lot of Green's usual bizarre physical comedy, which makes one wonder why the exec hasn't called security yet. -

MEDIA CLIPS – July 20, 2017 Arenado thrives with unconventional technique Uncommon footwork paying off at plate for Rox slugger By Joe Trezza / MLB.com | 10:00 AM ET NEW YORK -- Give it a few years, some in the Rockies' organization believe, and the Major Leagues could be a league littered with players like Nolan Arenado. Not in terms of production -- not everyone woke up Thursday fresh off a three- homer game and eyeing a third straight RBI title -- but in hitting approach and style. Baseball is a copycat game. Do something at the plate a little differently and very well, and soon someone is bound to mirror it. Baseball people don't think it a coincidence Giants prospect Christian Arroyo resembles Buster Posey in stance and swing, or how Jose Bautista's leg kick led to Josh Donaldson's and Justin Turner's, and on and on. The next trend may come from a mechanical tweak in Arenado's load some are calling the driving force behind not just the third baseman's homers, but also his future standing as a pioneer. "It's now three straight years, and he comes in at the break and he's leading baseball in RBI," Rockies broadcaster and former outfielder Ryan Spilborghs said. "You start paying attention to him. Mechanically, what does he do?" It's what Arenado does with his back (right) foot, specifically, during his swing that is turning heads. Slow down the video of his three-homer game Wednesday. Before each one, Arenado actually lifts his back foot off the ground prior to stepping with the front foot, a momentum-creating motion that essentially gives him a running start into the pitch. -
