The physically slight and lightly-armoured Oberyn Martell is fighting for Tyrion. The enormous and heavily armoured Ser Gregor Clegane is fighting on behalf of Queen Cersei and the Crown. As the fight approaches, Oberyn dismisses everyone's concerns, noting that he always has a drink before a battle and that he favours speed over protection. Oberyn’s mistress - Ellaria Sand - becomes increasingly fearful, noting that Ser Gregor is the largest man she has ever seen. The illustrious Maester Pycelle steps into the ring to begin a long-winded speech about the will of the gods but Tywin Lannister cuts him short and begins the trial. As the fight progresses, Oberyn begins to make public the fact that Ser Gregor murdered his sister, Elia Martell, along with her children. He taunts and goads Ser Gregor and tries to exact a confession. As he begins to win the fight, he insists that before he dies Ser Gregor must confesses the murders and also the fact that Tywin Lannister gave the order for them.
