Each Magistrates Courts in Hong Kong has a Court Liaison Office (CLO) where any person can apply for legal representation up to and including on the day of their appearance. Defendants held in custody are automatically contacted by staff of the CLO. Representation is free for the first appearance, however if cases are adjourned or defendants held over, further instructions will be available from the Scheme.
