Andrew May Pseudoscience and Science Fiction Science and Fiction Editorial Board Mark Alpert Philip Ball Gregory Benford Michael Brotherton Victor Callaghan Amnon H Eden Nick Kanas Geoffrey Landis Rudi Rucker Dirk Schulze-Makuch Ru€diger Vaas Ulrich Walter Stephen Webb Science and Fiction – A Springer Series This collection of entertaining and thought-provoking books will appeal equally to science buffs, scientists and science-fiction fans. It was born out of the recognition that scientific discovery and the creation of plausible fictional scenarios are often two sides of the same coin. Each relies on an understanding of the way the world works, coupled with the imaginative ability to invent new or alternative explanations—and even other worlds. Authored by practicing scientists as well as writers of hard science fiction, these books explore and exploit the borderlands between accepted science and its fictional counterpart. Uncovering mutual influences, promoting fruitful interaction, narrating and analyzing fictional scenarios, together they serve as a reaction vessel for inspired new ideas in science, technology, and beyond. Whether fiction, fact, or forever undecidable: the Springer Series “Science and Fiction” intends to go where no one has gone before! Its largely non-technical books take several different approaches. Journey with their authors as they • Indulge in science speculation—describing intriguing, plausible yet unproven ideas; • Exploit science fiction for educational purposes and as a means of promoting critical thinking; • Explore the interplay of science and science fiction—throughout the history of the genre and looking ahead; • Delve into related topics including, but not limited to: science as a creative process, the limits of science, interplay of literature and knowledge; • Tell fictional short stories built around well-defined scientific ideas, with a supplement summarizing the science underlying the plot. -

JUDGE ANDERSON: SHAMBALLA PDF, EPUB, EBOOK Alan Grant,Arthur Ranson | 196 pages | 31 Jul 2008 | Rebellion | 9781905437672 | English | Oxford, United Kingdom Judge Anderson: Shamballa PDF Book I sort of knew of the character although really my reading was pretty much limited to Dredd himself. Smallville, tome 4 : Cruelle.. Related Articles. I'm also amused that "Satan" has a brief sequence involving one Lobsang Gump. Anderson is still reeling from the suicide of her closest friend when she gets to go to Tibet via Russia to find the source of the outbreak of psychic crimes. We have the titular Shamballa - which takes on Eastern mysticism and the nature of sacrifice as Anderson travels to Tibet to find the source of a worldwide epidemic of supernatural events. Unlike the collected works of Judge Dredd, which run chronologically, this collection dips in and out of a number of ongoing narratives and references to previous — and as yet unprinted — stories can prove frustrating but not enough to ruin the overall flow of the individual stories. Interestingly, it's distinctly a pre-"Necropolis" story, since Silver's the Chief Judge. They are made even better by the incredible art. En moins de 4 ans, Pol Pot tua plus de 2 millions de personnes. Les livres du moment du 15 octobre : la parole aux Babelionautes. Anderson is prominent in her Division and gains the respect of Dredd. Batman Knightfall tome 5 1 critique. I don't think, despite the title, it's about protest movements, it's about suffering, suicide and why some people feel the need to destroy themselves. -

JUDGE DREDD DAY OF CHAOS: ENDGAME PDF, EPUB, EBOOK John Wagner,Henry Flint,Colin MacNeil | 192 pages | 18 Jul 2013 | Rebellion | 9781781081426 | English | Oxford, United Kingdom Judge Dredd Day of Chaos: Endgame PDF Book Nadia's group kidnaps scientist Elmore Yurges, a biological warfare expert who had been working on making a weaponised form of toxoplasma gondii. Taking responsibility for these events, Vass resigns. That virus, as is very soon revealed, is the chaos bug, designed to spread rapidly and kill anyone it infects. The Chaos Bug has been released and the weakened Justice Department is finding it increasingly difficult to remain in control. Thanks for telling us about the problem. Show now. Not the story, which gets better and better as you go How much worse can it get for Mega- City One? And those crafty Sovs, in fiction as in real life, have deep cover agents, planted long ago and completely unknown to the authorities. But the story itself is good too. Judge Dredd: Day of chaos - Endgame Paperback. Close Cart:. The natural form of the disease is not usually fatal, but Yurges's creation kills 98 to 99 per cent of those infected, within four days of exposure, during which they descend into murderous psychosis and become uncontrollably violent. There is no footling around with romantic sub-plots or children in peril or ma and pa threatened - the kind of stuff that Hollywood uses to humanize the threat. Clues in Hennessey's visions uncover his true location, and this time Dredd gets his way: the compound is raided by soldiers, accompanied by Dredd, who discovers evidence that the bio-weapon has been completed. -

Superhuman, Transhuman, Post/Human: Mapping the Production and Reception of the Posthuman Body
Superhuman, Transhuman, Post/Human: Mapping the Production and Reception of the Posthuman Body Scott Jeffery Thesis submitted for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy School of Applied Social Science, University of Stirling, Scotland, UK September 2013 Declaration I declare that none of the work contained within this thesis has been submitted for any other degree at any other university. The contents found within this thesis have been composed by the candidate Scott Jeffery. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Thank you, first of all, to my supervisors Dr Ian McIntosh and Dr Sharon Wright for their support and patience. To my brother, for allowing to me to turn several of his kitchens into offices. And to R and R. For everything. ABSTRACT The figure of the cyborg, or more latterly, the posthuman body has been an increasingly familiar presence in a number of academic disciplines. The majority of such studies have focused on popular culture, particularly the depiction of the posthuman in science-fiction, fantasy and horror. To date however, few studies have focused on the posthuman and the comic book superhero, despite their evident corporeality, and none have questioned comics’ readers about their responses to the posthuman body. This thesis presents a cultural history of the posthuman body in superhero comics along with the findings from twenty-five, two-hour interviews with readers. By way of literature reviews this thesis first provides a new typography of the posthuman, presenting it not as a stable bounded subject but as what Deleuze and Guattari (1987) describe as a ‘rhizome’. Within the rhizome of the posthuman body are several discursive plateaus that this thesis names Superhumanism (the representation of posthuman bodies in popular culture), Post/Humanism (a critical-theoretical stance that questions the assumptions of Humanism) and Transhumanism (the philosophy and practice of human enhancement with technology).
