FLAMES LAST GAME HIGHLIGHTS OCTOBER 24, 2019 – CALGARY FLAMES [6] vs. FLORIDA PANTHERS [5] (SO) The Flames welcomed the Florida Panthers into the Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday. This back-and-forth affair needed extra time after the Flames tied the game up at five with less than three minutes to go. Overtime would solve nothing as these teams would head to a shootout where Sean Monahan and Matthew Tkachuk would both score and David Rittich would shut the door as the Flames take this one 6-5 in Calgary before heading to the Heritage Classic.

TONIGHT’S STORYLINES This is the first of three matchups this season between the Flames and Winnipeg Jets. The Flames won two of the three matchups a season ago against the Jets, outscoring them 11-6 over the season-series.

This is a Western Conference matchup; The Flames have started this young season with a record of 3-4-1 against Western Conference opponents.

TIM HORTONS HERITAGE CLASSIC: The Flames and Jets will drop the puck on the 2019 Tim Hortons Heritage Classic tonight from Mosaic Stadium in Regina Saskatchewan. The Flames will don their 1989 white throwback heritage jerseys for tonight’s spectacle, the same style jersey the Flames wore when they won the Stanley Cup in 1989. This will be the first NHL regular season outdoor game that will be held at a neutral site that is not formally apart of the NHL market. This will also be the Flames second Heritage Classic game in their franchise, the first was a 4-0 victory over the in 2011 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.

EXPERIENCE REGINA: This will be the first time the NHL will host a regular season game in Regina, and the first regular season game held in Saskatchewan since 1994. Flames General Manager, Brad Treliving is no stranger to Regina as he played one season for the Regina Pats in 1988-89 and the President and CEO, John Bean is no stranger to the Province as he was born and raised in Saskatchewan, attending the University of Saskatchewan. Ultimately, Flames owner, N. Murray Edwards was born and raised in Regina, attending high school at Campbell Collegiate. He later attended the University of Saskatchewan, which in 2007, was renamed the N. Murray Edwards School of Business.

JET FUEL: This opposite-sides-of-Saskatchewan rival is renewed tonight for the first games of the 2019-20 season between these two teams. The Flames 2-1-0 record against the Jets last season was thanks to Johnny Gaudreau as he notched four goals and one assist for five points in three games against the Jets. Sean Monahan also had a hand in it, he had four assists in two games in the season-series. David Rittich was solid between the pipes a season ago going 2-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and a .947 Sv%.

JOHNNY & THE JETS: Flames All-Star, Johnny Gaudreau has found success against the Jets over his career. In 14 games against Winnipeg, Johnny Hockey has nine goals and nine assists for 18 points. Gaudreau is off to a fast start this season scoring three goals and notching six assists for nine points in 12 games. The 26-year-old had a career year in 2018-19 scoring 36 goals and adding 63 assists for 99 points and finished the season as a +18.

DID YOU KNOW? Cam Talbot is only one of three goalies in NHL history to have a shutout in an outdoor game. Talbot closed the door in 2016 for the Edmonton Oilers as they beat the Jets 3-0. The second of the three goalies in NHL history to record a shutout in an NHL outdoor game, Mikka Kiprusoff in 2011 for the Flames.

A memorable 600, tonight Travis Hamonic will play in his 600th career NHL game.

HOW THE FLAMES WERE BUILT: (* = injured) Draft (10): Andersson, Backlund, Bennett, Brodie, Gaudreau, Jankowski, Kylington, Mangiapane, Monahan, Tkachuk Free Agents (7): Czarnik, Frolik, Giordano, Rittich, Rieder, Ryan, Talbot Trade (5): Lindholm, Lucic, Hamonic, Hanifin, Stone
