WWW.GOXAVIER.COM 2006 XAVIER BASEBALL 3 2006 SEASON PREVIEW

A new year and a new era for Xavier baseball is set to get underway. The Musketeer nine will look to a new head coach and a solid core of returners to get back atop the new-look Atlantic 10 Conference. First-year head coach Scott Googins inherits a team that fi nished 19-35 a season ago and 9-15 in Atlantic 10 play. Googins will look to receive a solid effort from six of eight starting position players returning from last season as well as a very athletic freshman class. “I am excited about this upcoming season and the direction of the program,” said Googins. “We have worked extremely hard this off season and are eager to prove ourselves as a team. We want to prove that we are a better ball club than what we showed last season.” “We have a strong core of players coming back. Even though we are missing two good players, the majority of our team from last year will be back and with that experience brings great opportunity. With a year under their belts, I feel the returning players can use their experience to fi ll any void left by last year’s seniors.” PITCHING STAFF Xavier returns a strong core of pitching on the team.
