North Tartan Players in the News … November 2012 Verbally Commit 2013 North Tartan players in the news … As the 2012 summer season ended once again every athlete will have a future DI University to call home. These athletes have verbally committed: Chelsea Poppens. The 6'2" senior from Aplington, Iowa has emerged as a key forward for the Iowa State women's basketball team in the past four years. Tesha Buck University of Green Bay Chelsea Poppens has been selected as a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, Joanna Hedstrom University of Minnesota a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four Tyseanna Johnson Iowa State University areas of excellence – community, classroom, character Clarissa Ober South Dakota State U and competition. Well respected by opposing coaches for her tireless effort, Poppens was one of just three Rebekah Dahlman Vanderbilt University unanimous picks to the All-Big 12 First Team. She Kristina White University of Vermont averaged 14.2 points and 10.6 rebounds last season, making her the only player in the Big 12 to average a Kayonna Lee Illinois State University double-double. She was 13th nationally in rebounding, Nia Coffey Northwestern University recording 16 double-digit rebound games, including seven games with 15 or more rebounds. Two years ago Vice President Boo Williams asked Bill to join the Executive Girls’ Basketball Board. Director Bill Larson agreed and is now one of nine select members involved in every aspect of AAU basketball. His first meeting of the month was the responsibility of selecting various locations for future AAU National tournaments. “It was a large task with a lot on the table. It is important to get it right.” “Cities are not offering just gyms they are offering full experiences for players, coaches, and parents.” NIKE HEADQUARTERS Bill traveled to Portland Oregon for his annual Nike meeting only a few weeks ago. He notices big trends that are developing in youth basketball - Trends that are a reaction to the change in the NCAA calendar that will be put into effect this upcoming season.     SEASON REVIEW HAILIE SAMPLE 6-1 l Junior l Forward Flower Mound, Texas 104 | NEBRASKA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL | 2013-14 Huskers Have Fun on Run to Second NCAA Sweet 16 Nebraska spent the 2012-13 season solidifying its spot among the top 20 women's college basketball programs in the nation. A young Husker team that featured just one senior starter and just two seniors overall on an 11-player roster, sprinted to its second NCAA Sweet 16 in the past four years. Despite playing the nation's No. 12 strength of schedule, the Huskers notched the second-most wins in school history with a 25-9 record. NU also finished second in the regular-season Big Ten standings with a 12-4 conference mark, the second-most league wins in school history. Nebraska's success translated into a No. 16 RPI in the final NCAA rankings and a No. 18 final national ranking in the USA Today Coaches Top 25. It was NU's third top-25 finish in the last four seasons. Nebraska's fan base also continued to grow in support of one of the nation's rising programs. The Huskers ranked 16th nationally in average home attendance with more than 5,200 fans per game watching Nebraska compete in its final season in the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Huskers averaged nearly 6,600 fans per Big Ten home contest. Throughout the season, senior Lindsey Moore and junior Jordan Hooper rewrote Nebraska history. The pair became the first Seniors Meghin Williams (#10) and Lindsey Moore (#00) led Nebraska to three NCAA Tournament Husker teammates to earn preseason mention appearances, including NU's first two NCAA Sweet 16 bids during their four years in Lincoln.

(February 8, 2018) – Twenty NCAA® men’s and women’s basketball student-athletes who excel both on and off the court were selected as finalists today for the 2017-18 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate basketball. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be classified as NCAA Division I seniors and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of finalists follows this release. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their athletic platforms to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 men’s candidates and 30 women’s candidates announced in January. Connecticut leads all schools with three players on the 25-member preseason list. Five schools - defending national champion Baylor, Duke, Kansas, Nebraska and Penn State - are represented by two players each.
