Islamabad is the ninth largest city in Pakistan, while the larger Islamabad– Rawalpindi metropolitan area is the country's fourth largest with a population of about 3.1 million. Travel from Islamabad to Shogran via Kiwai. Reached shogran in evening. Overnight stay in Shogran. Day 2 Shogran is a hill station situated on a green plateau in the Kaghan Valley, northern Pakistan at a height of 2,362 metres (7,749 ft) above sea level. It is located in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Shogran is located at a distance of 34 kilometres away from Balakot. Siri Paye is situated at a height of almost 9,498 feet, Siri Paye meadows is an unforgettable sight because the view from there includes a glimpse of Makra Peak, Malika Parbat, and the mountains of Kashmir. Morning breakfast at hotel. Leave for Siri Paye via jeep. Return to Shogran. Overnight stay in hotel. Day 3 Naran is a medium-sized town in upper Kaghan Valley in Mansehra District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It is located 119 kilometers from Mansehra city at the altitude of 2,409 meters (7,904 ft).It is located about 65 kilometer away from Babusar Top. It is a popular tourist attraction locally as well as internationally. Jheel Saif ul Muluk is a mountainous lake located at the northern end of the Kaghan Valley, near the town of Naran in the Saiful Muluk National Park. At an elevation of 3,224 m (10,578 feet) above sea level, the lake is located above the tree line, and is one of the highest lakes in Pakistan. Morning breakfast at hotel. Proceed to Naran. Rakaposhi is also known as Dumani ("Mother of Mist" or "Mother of Clouds"). It is ranked 27th highest in the world. Altit fort is an ancient fort at Altit town in the Hunza valley in Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. It was originally home to the hereditary rulers of the Hunza state who carried the title Mir. Baltit Fort is a fort in the Hunza valley, near the town of Karimabad, in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan. Day 6 Khunjerab Pass is a 4,693-meter (15,397 ft)-high mountain pass in the Karakoram Mountains, in a strategic position on the northern border of Pakistan (Gilgit–Baltistan's Hunza and on the southwest border of China (Xinjiang). Attabad Lake is a lake located in the Gojal region of Hunza Valley in Gilgit−Baltistan, Pakistan. It was created in January 2010 as the result of a major landslide in Attabad. The lake has become one of the biggest tourist attractions in Gilgit−Baltistan, offering activities like boating, jet-skiing, fishing and other recreational activities. The Karakoram Highway is a 1,300 km national highway which extends from Hasan Abdal in the Punjab province of Pakistan to the Khunjerab Pass in Gilgit-Baltistan, where it crosses into China and becomes China National Highway 314. Amongst the parts used, the results showed that the whole plant of most of them viz. thirty-two, the leaves of twenty-seven, the stem of twelve, and the fruits of nine taxa were used for different purposes. The governing families of the study area were Rosaceae Family consisting of thirteen taxa, solanaceae having five taxa, Buxaceae, Verbenaceae, Lamiaceae, Acanthaceae having three taxa each, Papilionaceae, Berberidaceae, Buddlejaceae, Anacardiaceae, Thymelaceae, Sapindaceae, Araliaceae, Guttiferae, Oleaceae, Cupressaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Poaceae, Rhamnaceae, Rutaceae, Caprifoliaceae keeping two taxa, and the rest of all the families contained one taxa, each was recorded in the study area. Studies were conducted during 2009 to 2010 in the months of June to August. As a result, 102 important plant species belonging to 93 genus and 61 families were recorded from all available sources including botanical name, local name, status, part used and economical importance. These plants were classified for their traditional medicinal and economic uses but many of these plants have more than one local use. The plants were used commonly as fuel wood, forage/fodder, medicinal, edible, shelter making, vegetables, timber wood, furniture wood etc. It is expected that this effort will also serve as an educational tool for students, researchers and plant taxonomists. Check List of Medicinal Plants of Siran Valley Mansehra-Pakistan Ghulam Mujtaba Shah And Mir Ajab Khan* Department of Botany, Govt Post Graduate College, Abbottabad *Department Of Plants Sciences, Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad-Pakistan Issued 27 February 2006 ABSTRACT This study was carried in Siran Valley district Mansehra. (Pakistan). The method adopted for documentation of indigenous knowledge was based on questionnaire consisting of semi-structured interviews employing a checklist of questions and direct observations. The aim of the study was to collect indigenous knowledge of local inhabitants about the use of native plants, which were being utilized by the people for the treatment of different diseases. The ethnomedicinal uses of 80 plant species belonging to 49 families were recorded during field trips from the research area. The cultivated medicinal plants consists of 21 species. The check list and ethnomedicinal inventory was developed alphabetically by botanical name, followed by local name, family, part used and ethnomedicinal uses. Plant specimens were collected, identified, preserved, mounted and voucher was deposited in the Department of Plant Sciences, Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad for future references. Key words: Medicinal plants, ethnomedicinal uses, Siran Valley-Pakistan. INTRODUCTION The study area is located in the Hazara Civil Division of the North West Frontier Province, (NWFP), Pakistan. Mansehra district was formed on 1st of October 1976. It consists of three tehsils viz. Balakot, Mansehra and Oghi. Mansehra district is located between 340-15/ to 350-12/ North latitudes and 720–50/ to 740-07/ East longitudes. Total area of the district is 5957 Sq km.
