As normally happens in a diverse scientific community, the interpretations of specialized lunar data have reflected the precepts in the various specialized fields. Constant promotion of the broadest overviews between these diverse fields is appropriate to identify processes or phenomenon recog- nized in one avenue of investigation which may have great importance in explaining the data of other specialities. -

Bleacher3 9 3NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD, USA. 10 11 12 Summary: 13 14 Several irregularly shaped craters located within Arabia Terra, Mars represent a 15 new type of highland volcanic construct and together constitute a previously 16 unrecognized martian igneous province. Similar to terrestrial supervolcanoes, these 17 low-relief paterae display a range of geomorphic features related to structural 18 collapse, effusive volcanism, and explosive eruptions. Extruded lavas contributed to 19 the formation of enigmatic highland ridged plains in Arabia Terra. Outgassed sulfur 20 and erupted fine-grained pyroclastics from these calderas likely fed the formation of 21 altered, layered sedimentary rocks and fretted terrain found throughout the 22 equatorial region. Discovery of a new type of volcanic construct in the Arabia 23 volcanic province fundamentally changes the picture of ancient volcanism and 24 climate evolution on Mars. Other eroded topographic basins in the ancient Martian 25 highlands that have been dismissed as degraded impact craters should be 26 reconsidered as possible volcanic constructs formed in an early phase of 27 widespread, disseminated magmatism on Mars. 28 29 30 EMBARGOED BY NATURE 2 31 The source of fine-grained, layered deposits1,2 detected throughout the equatorial 32 region of Mars3 remains unresolved, though the deposits are clearly linked to global 33 sedimentary processes, climate change, and habitability of the surface4. -

Abstract Background: NASA selected the Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) investigation in 1986 for the Mars Observer mission. The MOC consisted of three elements which shared a common package: a narrow angle camera designed to obtain images with a spatial resolution as high as 1.4 m per pixel from orbit, and two wide angle cameras (one with a red filter, the other blue) for daily global imaging to observe meteorological events, geodesy, and provide context for the narrow angle images. Following the loss of Mars Observer in August 1993, a second MOC was built from flight spare hardware and launched aboard Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) in November 1996. -

Darby Dyar, Astronomy Approved By: Christopher Condit, Geology CE Type: Departmental Honors Project Using a gridded version of maritan topography with the computer program Gridview, this project studied the depth-diameter relationship of martian impact craters. The work encompasses 361 profiles of impacts with diameters larger than 15 kilometers and is a continuation of work that was started at the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston, Texas under the guidance of Dr. Walter S. Keifer. Using the most ‘pristine,’ or deepest craters in the data a depth-diameter relationship was determined: d = 0.610D 0.327 , where d is the depth of the crater and D is the diameter of the crater, both in kilometers. This relationship can then be used to estimate the theoretical depth of any impact radius, and therefore can be used to estimate the pristine shape of the crater. With a depth-diameter ratio for a particular crater, the measured depth can then be compared to this theoretical value and an estimate of the amount of material within the crater, or fill, can then be calculated. The data includes 140 named impact craters, 3 basins, and 218 other impacts. The named data encompasses all named impact structures of greater than 100 kilometers in diameter. -

Nesteby Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree in Doctor of Philosophy August 1978 Approved: © 1978 JAMES RONALD NESTEBY ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ¡ ¡ in Abstract The Tarzan series of Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950), beginning with the All-Story serialization in 1912 of Tarzan of the Apes (1914 book), reveals deepseated racism in the popular imagination of early twentieth-century American culture. The fictional fantasies of lost races like that ruled by La of Opar (or Atlantis) are interwoven with the realities of racism, particularly toward Afro-Americans and black Africans. In analyzing popular culture, Stith Thompson's Motif-Index of Folk-Literature (1932) and John G. Cawelti's Adventure, Mystery, and Romance (1976) are utilized for their indexing and formula concepts. The groundwork for examining explanations of American culture which occur in Burroughs' science fantasies about Tarzan is provided by Ray R. Browne, publisher of The Journal of Popular Culture and The Journal of American Culture, and by Gene Wise, author of American Historical Explanations (1973). The lost race tradition and its relationship to racism in American popular fiction is explored through the inner earth motif popularized by John Cleves Symmes' Symzonla: A Voyage of Discovery (1820) and Edgar Allan Poe's The narrative of A. Gordon Pym (1838); Burroughs frequently uses the motif in his perennially popular romances of adventure which have made Tarzan of the Apes (Lord Greystoke) an ubiquitous feature of American culture. -

ABSTRACT: The main contribution of this work is to simulate 4-D of Mars carters. In doing so, 3-D data of High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) was aquired and then 4-D spline algorithm implemented to sequences of HRSC data with different fram of times. The study shows that B-spline can determine the 4-D crater surface with deep ice covers which could indicate for the existence of water. In conclusion, integration between 4-D B-spline algorithm and High Resolution Stereo Camera can be excellent 4-D visualization tool. 1. INTRODUCTION A carter is most visual feature which exists in Mars surface. Crater can be created by two cosmic bodies crashed each other, for instance, a meteorite striking a planet. It can be also formed by volcanic occupation. The different sort of carter is subsidence crater, which is occurred from an underground due to nuclear explosion. A crater-like pattern shaped by erosion which is known as Machtesh. Furthermore, a relief crater triggered by a phreatic outburst or explosion is defined as a maar crater. Therefore, Mars is a terrestrial planet which contains of minerals. These minerals are containing silicon and oxygen, metals, and other elements which naturally form rock. The Mars surface is mostly created from tholeiitic basalt. With these regards, the Mars is required standard procedures to understand its complicated nature and characteristics formation. -

New Chryse and the Provinces The city of New Chryse is actually several connected cities. The Upper City is located on a break in the crater rim, looking down past a steep rock to the Lower City. Inside the da Vinci crater rim lies the Inner City, also known as the Old City – Red Era tunnels and cave shelters, as well as several nanocomposite towers and cupolas on Mona Lys Ridge looking down on the lower parts of the city. The Lower city lies in a valley sloping down to the Harbour City, which fills a crater 20 kilometres to the East. The Harbour City crater is connected to Camiling Bay and the sea through two canyons and is very well protected from both wind and ice. South of the Lower City and Harbour City lies The Slopes, a straight slope into the sea that is covered with sprawl and slums. Mona Lys Ridge is a mixture of palatial estates surrounded by gardens, imposing official imperial buildings and towering ancient structures used by the highest ranks of the Empire. The central imperial administration and especially the Council is housed in the Deimos Needle, a diamondoid tower that together with its sibling the Phobos Needle dominate the skyline. Escalators allow swift and discreet transport down to the lower levels of the city, and can easily be defended by the police force. North of Mona Lys lies a secluded garden city for higher administrators, guild officials and lesser nobility. The Inner City is to a large extent part of Mona Lys, although most of the inhabitants of Mona Lys do not care much for the dusty old tunnels and hidden vaults – that is left to the Guild of Antiquarians who maintain and protect it. -
