It features data compression hardware which provides an effective capacity of up to 80 GB and an effective transfer rate of up to 12 MB per second, depending on the characteristics of the data transferred. The 7205 provides a cost-effective solution for save/restore and archiving functions. Note: Although the 7205 Model 440 digital linear tape drive provides the capability for high tape performance, other components of the system may limit the actual performance achieved. Also, although the compression technology used in the tape drive can typically double the amount of data that can be stored on the media, the actual degree of compression achieved is highly sensitive to the characteristics of the data being compressed. Product Positioning The new 7205 Model 440 40 GB External Digital Linear Tape Drive is an excellent solution for customers who use tape or require a larger-capacity or higher-performance tape backup. It can be an alternative product to other externally attached, ¼-inch, 4mm, or 8mm tape devices for the pSeries and RS/6000 families of workstations and servers. IBM offers a wide variety of tape drives and tape library products to meet your removable data storage needs. A quick comparison chart is presented for you to compare library capacities and data rates. Refer to the specific product documentation for precise data rates, drive configurations, and library configurations. The table is sorted by increasing overall library or drive capacity.
