FEDERER SEEKS MILESTONE TITLE AGAINST ZVEREV

can add another milestone to his memorable season on Sunday when he meets for the Coupe Rogers championship. A win would tie Federer with for second in the Open Era with 94 ATP World Tour titles. Should he win his third Coupe Rogers title, Federer will secure a Top 2 seed at the US Open and control his own destiny in next week’s race for the No. 1 ranking. See below for all scenarios as Federer and battle in Cincinnati for the top spot in the Emirates ATP Rankings.

• Federer is 5-0 in finals and 35-2 overall this season, holding match point in all 37 of his matches. He has earned 16 straight victories to equal his longest win streak since 2012. Zverev is on a nine- match unbeaten run of his own, boosting him to a career-high 45 victories in 2017. The 20-year-old German is 4-1 in 2017 finals, losing only to Federer 6-1, 6-3 in 53 minutes at Halle on June 25. Should he avenge that loss, Zverev would tie Federer for the most ATP World Tour titles this year.

• Zverev is the youngest Coupe Rogers finalist since won the Montreal title in 2007. He is hoping to join Jo-Wilfried Tsonga as the second active player other than the Big Four of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and to win multiple ATP Masters 1000 titles. Zverev is also bidding to become the 11th champion this season who saved match point en route to a title (see page 3). The German fought off three match points against in his opener.

#NEXTGENATP’S SHAPOVALOV, ZVEREV TO MEET IN SEMIS

, 18, and Alexander Zverev, 20, will meet in a #NextGenATP semi-final showdown on Saturday at Coupe Rogers. Zverev entered the event with four titles this year alone, while Shapovalov arrived in Montreal with three career victories on tour. The Canadian teen has seven wins now, including a historic upset of three-time champion and No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal.

• Shapovalov is the youngest ATP Masters 1000 semi-finalist since the series started in 1990 and the youngest Coupe Rogers semi-finalist in the Open Era. With two more wins, the World No. 143 would tie Roberto Carretero at 1996 Hamburg as the lowest-ranked ATP Masters 1000 champion. Shapovalov would be the lowest-ranked Coupe Rogers champion since rankings began in 1973.

• Zverev is 8-0 in the last 10 days, including straight-set victories over in the Washington final on Sunday and Montreal quarter-finals on Friday. The German is up to 44 wins on the season, tying his career-high from 2016 and three shy of Nadal’s ATP-best 47 victories in 2017. Zverev would be the youngest Coupe Rogers finalist since Novak Djokovic won the 2007 title.

• Shapovalov saved four match points and Zverev saved three in their opening matches this week. Their meeting on Saturday is the youngest semi-final on tour since 18-year-old defeated 20-year-old at 2008 Delray Beach and the youngest ATP Masters 1000 semi-final since Nadal defeated fellow 18-year-old Richard Gasquet at 2005 Monte-Carlo.

• Roger Federer will play his 59th ATP Masters 1000 semi-final against , who is appearing in his first. Federer’s 15-match win streak is his longest since 16 in 2012. Should he win his third Coupe Rogers title, Federer will secure a Top 2 seed at the US Open and control his own destiny in next week’s race for the No. 1 ranking. Haase is 0-1 against Federer and 0-11 lifetime against Top 5 players. He and Shapovalov are both unseeded, marking the first time that two unseeded players are in the Coupe Rogers semis since 2008 ( and ).

FEDERER CONTROLS DESTINY THANKS TO SHAPOVALOV

• Either Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal will be ranked No. 1 on August 21 and seeded No. 1 at the US Open. Appearing in his eighth Coupe Rogers quarter-final, Federer controls his own destiny. A third title in Canada would give Federer 7,545 Emirates ATP Rankings points. With Nadal defending 90 of his 7,555 ranking points next week, Federer would clinch No. 1 with the Montreal title and an equal-or-better finish than the Spaniard in Cincinnati, where the Swiss is a seven-time champion.

• Federer is a combined 20-1 against the other seven Coupe Rogers quarter-finalists with a 6-0 record against Nadal's countryman . The Spaniard hopes to win a set off Federer for the first time when they meet again on Friday. Bautista Agut is 0-14 in sets against Federer, including a two-tiebreak loss in the ATP Masters 1000 Miami fourth round on March 28.

• If Federer is World No. 1 on August 21, he'll have Denis Shapovalov to thank. The 18-year-old Canadian became the second-youngest player to defeat Nadal on Thursday. Shapovalov is the youngest ATP Masters 1000 quarter-finalist in series history (249 events with 1,992 quarter- final spots since 1990). After entering Montreal with three tour-level wins, Shapovalov has earned three more this week and seeks another on Friday against fellow left-hander . Both Shapovalov and Mannarino, 29, are appearing in their first ATP Masters 1000 quarter-final.

• The only quarter-finalist with a win over Federer is 20-year-old Alexander Zverev, who meets Kevin Anderson on Friday in a Washington final rematch. Zverev defeated Anderson 6-4, 6-4 five days ago for his fourth title of 2017. A berth in their first ATP Masters 1000 semi-final is at stake for unseeded players Robin Haase and at 12:30 pm. Five unseeded players are in the quarter-finals of an ATP Masters 1000 event for the first time since 2005 Hamburg. One year earlier, Federer and Andy Roddick were the only seeds in the Coupe Rogers quarter-finals.

ZVEREV, FERRER SEEK 1ST WINS OVER LONGTIME RIVALS

• There is a little of everything in the Coupe Rogers third round on Thursday: four #NextGenATP players, four men who’ve saved match points this week, and only six of the tournament’s 16 seeds. All of the above is Alexander Zverev, who meets on Court Central in a showdown of the Emirates ATP Race to Milan leader and the top #NextGenATP player from the 2016 season.

• Zverev and Kyrgios, who played doubles together at 2016 Roland Garros, go back to the ITF Juniors Circuit. An 18-year-old Kyrgios beat a 16-year-old Zverev 6-3, 6-1 in the 2013 Aegon Junior International final. They’ve met twice on the ATP World Tour, with the elder Australian sweeping the younger German at ATP Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells on March 14 and Miami on March 30.

• Kyrgios’ FedEx ATP Head2Head advantage over Zverev pales in comparison to Roger Federer’s dominance of David Ferrer. Federer is 16-0 against Ferrer and seeks an unprecedented 17th win over the Spaniard on Thursday. Ferrer is tied with for the most losses without a victory against Federer. They have not met since the 2014 ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati final.

• While Federer could reclaim No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings on August 21, Rafael Nadal will return to No. 1 on August 14 if he defeats Denis Shapovalov on Thursday and either Hyeon Chung or Adrian Mannarino on Friday. Shapovalov, an 18-year-old Canadian wild card, is the youngest player to reach an ATP Masters 1000 Round of 16 since Nadal, then 17, at 2004 Miami.

NADAL, FEDERER HIGHLIGHT R32 PLAY IN MONTREAL

1) A star-studded lineup featuring 12 of the top 20 players in the Emirates ATP Rankings takes the court Wednesday for R32 action at the Coupe Rogers in Montreal.

2) No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal begins his quest to regain the World No. 1 ranking on Wednesday evening as he faces #NextGenATP star Borna Coric, who has taken two of three meetings from the Spaniard on the ATP World Tour. The 20-year-old Croatian defeated Nadal in the QF at Basel in 2014 before Nadal leveled the Head2Head with a four-set win in the 1R of the 2015 U.S. Open. Coric took their most recent meeting in the R16 at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Cincinnati in 2016. Nadal will retake No. 1 from Andy Murray in the Emirates ATP Rankings if he reaches the semi-finals, which would be his first time atop the rankings since July 6, 2014. A winner of four ATP World Tour titles this year, including his 10th crown, Nadal has won three titles here (2005, d. Agassi; 2008, d. Kiefer; and 2013, d. Raonic) and is tied with Novak Djokovic all-time with 30 ATP Masters 1000 titles. Coric set up his matchup with Nadal by defeating lucky loser Mikhail Youzhny on Tuesday, snapping a three-match losing streak. He won his first ATP World Tour title at Marrakech (d. Kohlschreiber) and earned the biggest win of his career over Murray to reach the ATP Masters 1000 Madrid QF as a lucky loser (l. to Thiem).

3) One day after celebrating his 36th birthday, No. 2 seed Roger Federer takes the court for the first time since extending his all-time record with his 19th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon (d. Cilic) when he faces Canadian wild card to kick off afternoon play on Center Court. This will be the second time in four years that the two have faced off here in the R32, with Federer winning, 6-2, 6-0, in 2014. Federer is a two-time champion here (2004, d. Roddick; 2006, d. Gasquet), but has not competed here since losing to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the 2014 Toronto final. This is Federer's first match in Montreal since falling to Tsonga in the 2011 third round. Polansky, ranked No. 116 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, won an all-Canadian matchup with , 7-5, 6-2, on Monday to earn his R32 matchup with Federer. The 29-year-old recorded his first ATP World Tour match win of 2017 last week in Los Cabos (d. Uchiyama in R32, l. to eventual finalist Kokkinakis in R16).

4) Juan Martin del Potro will follow on Center Court when he meets another Canadian wild card, Denis Shapovalov, for the first time on the ATP World Tour. On Monday, del Potro halted No. 14 seed 's eight-match winning streak to improve to 11-0 in first-round matches this season. The Argentine reached the final here in 2009 (l. to Murray) and is 7-5 lifetime. Shapovalov defeated Rogerio Dutra Silva in the first round on Tuesday to record his first match win on hard- courts in 2017 (1-3). The former junior World No. 1 reached the R16 at London/Queen's Club, defeating in the R32 before losing to Tomas Berdych in the R16.

5) Canadian No. 1 caps off the evening session on Center Court when he faces Frenchman Adrian Mannarino for the second time on the ATP World Tour. Raonic won their previous meeting in the 2R of the . The World No. 10 is 10-7 lifetime in his homeland tournament, reaching the final in 2013 (l. to Nadal) and the QF in 2014 (l. to Lopez) and 2016 (l. to Monfils). He is seeking his first ATP World Tour title since 2016 Brisbane (d. Federer), a stretch of 30 events and 19+ months. Raonic kicked off his summer hard-court campaign by reaching the QF last week in Washington (l. to Sock). Mannarino defeating on Monday for his first match win at this tournament. 6) No. 5 seed Kei Nishikori, last year's runner-up (l. to Djokovic) commences afternoon play on Banque Nationale Court when he faces Gael Monfils for a spot in the R16. Nishikori has won all three meetings with Monfils, including 2-0 on hard-courts. The Japanese star won their QF matchup at the 2016 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Miami and followed that up with a QF win at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. Nishikori, seeking his first ATP World Tour title since 2016 Memphis, is 9-4 lifetime here, reaching the SF in 2015 (d. Nadal in QF, l. to Murray in SF) before his run to the final last year (d. Raonic in QF, l. to Djokovic in SF) and is 12-7 lifetime. The Frenchman is looking to bounce back from a R32 loss to World No. 200 last week in Washington.

7) Grigor Dimitrov, the No. 7 seed, follows on Banque Nationale Court when he takes on for the second time this year. Dimitrov prevailed in three sets in their R32 encounter in Rotterdam. Dimitrov advanced to the quarter-finals here in 2016 (l. to Nishikori) and the semi-finals in 2014 (l. to Tsonga). The Bulgarian captured his 5th and 6th ATP World Tour titles respectively at Brisbane (d. Thiem, Raonic and Nishikori) and Sofia (d. Goffin) and is coming off a R16 performance last week in Washington (l. to Medvedev). Zverev got past Slovakian qualifier in three sets on Monday to reach the R32 here for the first time. On Sunday, Zverev captured his fourth ATP World Tour title of the year, and fifth of his career, in Washington (d. Murray in SF, l. to Federer in F) and 2012 (d. Isner in SF, l. to Djokovic) and is 20-8 lifetime.

Players Under-21 to Win 4+ Titles in a Season (since 1992)

Alexander Zverev (4) in 2017 Juan Martin del Potro (4) in 2008 Novak Djokovic (5) in 2007 Rafael Nadal (4) in 2007 Rafael Nadal (5) in 2006 Rafael Nadal (11) in 2005 Andy Roddick (5) in 2003 Lleyton Hewitt (7) in 2001 Lleyton Hewitt (4) in 2000 Marat Safin (7) in 2000

9) Red-hot American Sam Querrey takes on No. 8 seed and 2014 champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga under the lights at Banque Nationale Court. Tsonga holds the edge in their FedEx ATP Head2Head, 4-2, but Querrey won their most recent meeting at Wimbledon in the R32 in five sets. Querrey continued his torrid play of late by holding off French qualifier in three sets on Tuesday. The American captured his second ATP World Tour title of 2017 in Los Cabos (d. Kokkinakis), and as a result, climbed into the top 20 in the Emirates ATP Rankings for the first time since July 2013 (at No. 20). He has won 10 of his past 11 matches, losing only to Marin Cilic in the Wimbledon SF. Tsonga won the 2014 title here (d. 10 THINGS TO WATCH IN MONTREAL

1) Rafa Eyes No. 1: Rafael Nadal will retake No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings if he reaches the Coupe Rogers semi-finals. Nadal has not been World No. 1 since July 6, 2014. The Spaniard is making his 11th appearance at Coupe Rogers, where he is 28-7 overall and 18-4 in Montreal.

2) Back at the Top: Nadal and Roger Federer are the top two seeds in Montreal. The Spaniard and Swiss have not been the Top 2 seeds at Coupe Rogers since 2009. That year, Federer was the No. 1 seed, Nadal was No. 2, and both lost in the quarter-finals. Nadal is a three-time champion (2005, 2008, 2013) and Federer is a two-time winner (2004, 2006). The Big Four has captured 24 of 27 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles since Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won 2014 Toronto (89%). The other non-Big Four champions are Marin Cilic (2016 Cincinnati) and Alexander Zverev (2017 Rome).

3) Remarkable Roger: Federer, who turns 36 on Tuesday, is making his first appearance in Canada since losing to Tsonga in the 2014 Toronto final. He has not played in Montreal since falling to Tsonga in the 2011 third round. Federer is 11-4 in Montreal and 20-5 in Toronto, where he has won both of his Coupe Rogers titles. This season, Federer is 31-2 with an ATP-best five titles, including his 18th and 19th Grand Slam championships at the Australian Open and Wimbledon respectively. He won his 25th and 26th ATP Masters 1000 titles respectively at Indian Wells and Miami.

4) Milos at Home: Canada’s own Milos Raonic is making his eighth Coupe Rogers main draw appearance (10-7 record). He has reached the quarter-finals or better in four of the last five years, with a runner-up finish in 2013 (l. to Nadal) and quarter-final runs in 2012, 2014 and 2016.

5) Tsonga’s Success: Tsonga is 16-4 at Coupe Rogers, including semi-finals at Montreal in 2009 and 2011. He defeated Federer, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic en route to the 2014 Toronto title.

6) #NextGenATP Invasion: Zverev, the Emirates ATP Race to Milan leader, is joined in the Coupe Rogers main draw by fellow Next Gen ATP Finals contenders Karen Khachanov, Borna Coric, Daniil Medvedev, Hyeon Chung, Jared Donaldson, Frances Tiafoe and Denis Shapovalov.

7) Tale of Two Races: Zverev could qualify for both the inaugural Next Gen ATP Finals and year-end Nitto ATP Finals. He entered Washington last week at No. 6 in the Emirates ATP Race to London.

8) Wild Cards: All four singles wild cards are Canadian: 2013 semi-finalist Vasek Pospisil, Peter Polansky, and Shapovalov. Schnur, 22, is seeking his first ATP World Tour victory. Shapovalov, 18, earned his first tour-level victory over Nick Kyrgios at 2016 Toronto.

9) Nestor Streak: Less than a month shy of his 45th birthday, is expected to make his 29th straight Coupe Rogers appearance. Nestor has a 45-26 tournament record with 12 different partners, winning Toronto titles in 2000 with Sebastien Lareau and 2008 with Nenad Zimonjic.

10) Double Your Fun: Among the direct acceptances in the Montreal doubles draw are eight Grand Slam championship teams, including five-time Coupe Rogers champions Bob and . Coupe Rogers Day 1 – Monday, August 7, 2017 Page 2 of 10 www.ATPWorldTour.com
