Welcome to Mahé… Mahé is the largest of the Seychelles islands and encompasses the country’s international airport as well as its capital, the surprisingly quiet and peaceful town of Victoria, home to roughly a third of the national population, as well as many good restaurants and entertainment venues. Mahé has a mountainous interior characterised by dense tropical forests and stony outcrops, while its coast is blessed with some 75-odd beautiful beaches. The best known of these is the idyllic, white-sand Beau Vallon, fringed by deep bays that offer excellent swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving. Four Seasons Fast Facts: Located in the south of Mahé island, nestled into the hillside overlooking Petite Anse bay, which is often referred to as one of the most beautiful in Seychelles. 67 luxuriously appointed villas and suites are nestled discreetly amongst the foliage facing the azure blue Indian Ocean waters and only a few steps away from the beach. 27 Residence Villas featuring a variety of indoor and outdoor living areas, a complete kitchen and three to seven bedrooms. It can take up to 40 mins / 1hour to drive from one side of the island to the other. Mahé is extremely hilly so if you want to cross the island you need to go through the mountains/jungle which is an absolute highlight. Take your time! The island is stunning, particularly in the South West. Mahé is the largest island on the Seychelles and there is much to explore. Starting with the capital city of Victoria. Highlights to visit are the court buildings, museum, post office, Clock-tower [twin of the one outside London’s Victoria Station]. A turn around the corner takes one to the ‘Codevar’ building where local crafts, including the renowned Kreol Or [Creole Gold] are on display for sale. A walk across Albert Street leads one to the focal point of the town, its colourful market where stalls of fresh fish, tropical fruits & vegetables, herbs & spices. We would recommend a drive across the Sans Soucis mountain pass which is the perfect place to enjoy a hike at Morne Seychelles national park. Worth visiting on the southern tip of the island is the restored colonial plantation of ‘Jardin du Roi’, which is steeped in the short history of the Creoles as well as the Georges family, whose family tree apparently carries a link to Louis XVII of France. A cold drink of home-grown fruit welcomes visitors, before they tour the surrounding plantation of vegetables, exotic fruits, herbs and spices. In the North Beau Vallon Beach is one of the liveliest places to go for dinner or for cocktails on Mahé and is also a spectacular beach with great views towards Silhouette Island. W W W .
